While the purported probe is allegedly &ldquo;in an early stage,&rdquo; the outlet reported the Democrat attorney general&rsquo;s office &ldquo;received subpoenas for documents this week, including for information related to her civil fraud lawsuit against Trump.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1353047863\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>One of the subpoenas deals with James&rsquo; office&rsquo;s management of a case involving the National Rifle Association, according to sources who spoke with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/08\/08\/nyregion\/letitia-james-subpoena-trump-doj.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The New York Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As The Federalist previously <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/08\/19\/this-week-in-lawfare-land-will-merchan-move-forward-with-sentencing-trump-48-days-before-election-day\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>, James &mdash; who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2018\/12\/19\/new-yorks-next-attorney-general-targeted-slumlords-now-shes-going-after-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">campaigned<\/a> on using her current position to target Trump &mdash; sued Trump ahead of the 2024 election &ldquo;alleging that he misled banks, insurers, and others about his net worth to obtain loans, although none of the parties involved claimed to have been injured.&rdquo; Following the conclusion of &ldquo;a no-jury trial,&rdquo;&nbsp;New York Judge <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/tag\/arthur-engoron\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Arthur Engoron<\/a>&nbsp;&ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/02\/16\/trump-fined-350-million-in-democrats-latest-gambit-to-rig-the-2024-election\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">issued a decision<\/a>&nbsp;in February&nbsp;[2024] ordering Trump to pay a $454 million penalty.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Trump appealed the decision and &ldquo;posted a required&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/03\/26\/trumps-reduced-bond-doesnt-make-letitia-james-election-meddling-lawfare-any-less-scandalous\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$175 million appeal bond<\/a>,&rdquo; $450 Million Penalty In Trump Fraud Case: &lsquo;No One Lost Any Money&rsquo;<\/a>]<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A James representative has since criticized the DOJ&rsquo;s reported investigation into the New York attorney general&rsquo;s conduct, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/doj-opens-grand-jury-investigation-letitia-james-tied-trump-civil-case\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">claiming<\/a> the purported probe represents a &ldquo;weaponization of the justice system.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We stand strongly behind our successful litigation against the Trump Organization and the National Rifle Association, and we will continue to stand up for New Yorkers&rsquo; rights,&rdquo; the representative said. <\/p>\n<p>The reported investigation is seemingly separate from a legal controversy involving James that came to light earlier this year. <\/p>\n<p>As The Federalist&rsquo;s Brianna Lyman <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/04\/16\/letitia-no-one-is-above-the-law-james-accused-of-doing-exactly-what-she-prosecuted-trump-for\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>, U.S. Federal Housing Director William J.
