The investigation, based on interviews, public reports, and site inspections, identified cases of physical and sexual abuse, mistreatment of pregnant women, and neglect of children in these facilities. Notably, pregnant detainees reportedly faced inadequate medical care, overcrowding, and denied access to proper nutrition and urgent treatment.Children wiht medical conditions were also frequently denied necessary care, including a case involving a young U.S. citizen with stage 4 cancer who was deported without access to medication. Ossoff emphasized the importance of exposing these abuses, particularly those affecting children, and has sent oversight letters to the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Justice, and the Department of Defense. Pregnant women in detention facilities were not &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >receiving adequate medical care<\/a> and timely checkups, not receiving urgent care when needed, being denied snacks and adequate meals, and being forced to sleep on the floor due to overcrowding,&rdquo; according to the report.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with Ossoff&rsquo;s staff, one pregnant detainee said she repeatedly requested medical attention and was told to &ldquo;just drink water&rdquo; rather than receiving an exam. The report additionally stated some pregnant women have waited &ldquo;weeks&rdquo; to see a doctor in DHS custody.<\/p>\n<p>The report additionally found that children with medical issues while in detention were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/they-are-not-afraid-pompeo-calls-on-biden-to-fully-support-cuba-protesters\/\" title=\"\u2018They Are Not Afraid\u2019: Pompeo Calls On Biden To Fully Support Cuba Protesters\">denied medical care<\/a>. One case involved a 4-year-old U.S. citizen with stage 4 cancer, who was sent to Honduras without access to his medications when his mother was deported.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Regardless of our views on immigration policy, the American people do not support the abuse of detainees and prisoners&hellip;it&rsquo;s more important than ever to shine a light on what&rsquo;s happening behind bars and barbed wire, especially and most shockingly to children,&rdquo; Ossoff <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/immigration-detention-human-rights-abuses-report-rcna222499\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">told<\/a> NBC News in a statement about the report.<\/p>\n<p>Ossoff said he has sent oversight letters to the DHS, the Department of Justice, and the Department of Defense regarding the alleged mistreatment at immigration facilities.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/3458085\/house-of-representatives-senate-members-not-seeking-reelection\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><strong>LIST: THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE AND SENATE WHO HAVE SAID THEY WON&rsquo;T SEEK REELECTION<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The White House did not directly respond to a request for comment from the <em>Washington Examiner <\/em>on the alleged abuses. White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson said in a statement that &ldquo;ICE detention facilities have [sic] highest standards. They are safe, clean, and hold illegal aliens who are awaiting final removal proceedings.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>DHS and Immigration and Customs Enforcement did not respond to requests for comment.
