Previously, VA rules were in effect that did not allow abortions at VA facilities since 1999. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/biden-administration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Biden administration<\/a> initiated the policy in 2022. It was not until 2022 when the VA Secretary reversed this course. The stated reason for doing so was a reaction to a Supreme Court decision, <em>Dobbs<\/em> v. <em>Jackson Women&rsquo;s Health Organization&hellip;<\/em>that itself was intended to <em>prevent<\/em> federal overreach and return to States control over the provision of abortion services.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the VA reinforced that the policy change that was made in 2022 to allow abortions at VA medical facilities was predicated on politics, not an actual need.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Yet, the last administration used <em>Dobbs<\/em> to do the exact opposite of preventing overreach, creating a purported Federal entitlement to abortion for veterans where none had existed before and without regard to State law,&rdquo; the VA noted. &ldquo;In doing so, the administration predicted a high demand for VA abortions that never materialized.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Response to the policy proposal was met with the expected responses from the nation&rsquo;s politicians along party lines. Left-wing political organizations and Democratic politicians slammed the rule proposal, whereas Republicans celebrated it, according to the <em>Military Times<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We cannot let VA stop providing this care to veterans by ripping away this narrow, targeted protection,&rdquo; Sen.
