But opponents, including the <em>Seattle Times&rsquo;s<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seattletimes.com\/opinion\/editorials\/the-seattle-times-editorial-board-recommends-vote-no-on-democracy-vouchers-renewal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">editorial board<\/a>, say it&rsquo;s become too much of a burden to property owners, who have paid some $30 million into the program over roughly the last decade.<\/p>\n<p>The program says it only costs property owners an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seattle.gov\/democracyvoucher\/about-the-program\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">average of $8<\/a> per year. The editorial board cited less than 5% of Seattle voters who&rsquo;ve used the vouchers.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Elections_calendar\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">other states<\/a> where voters will head to the polls and what they&rsquo;ll be deciding on:<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Arizona<\/h2>\n<p>Arizona has <a href=\"https:\/\/azsos.gov\/elections\/calendar-dates#:~:text=August%205%2C%202025%20Election,Election%20at%2011:59%20p.m.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">local elections<\/a> across the state, including a primary for councilmembers in Tucson and a recall for the city&rsquo;s mayor.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Delaware<\/h2>\n<p>Delaware will have a <a href=\"https:\/\/elections.delaware.gov\/public\/calendar\/pdfs\/2025_RD20_SpecialElectionCalendar.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">special election<\/a> for Delaware State House District 20.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Iowa<\/h2>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/elections.mahaskacountyia.gov\/elections\/info\/oskaloosa_city_council_special_election_2025_08_05\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">special election<\/a> will be held for the Oskaloosa City Council.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Kansas<\/h2>\n<p>Certain localities in Kansas will hold <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kctv5.com\/2025\/08\/04\/election-day-guide-what-you-need-know-august-5-elections\/\">primaries<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Michigan<\/h2>\n<p>Michigan has local primaries, including a nonpartisan primary for Detroit mayor. Current Mayor Mike Duggan, a longtime Democrat, is not seeking reelection and instead running for governor as an independent. Nine candidates will appear on the ballot, and another dozen have write-in campaigns. The top two vote-getters will advance to the general election in November.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mississippi<\/h2>\n<p>Primary elections will be held for <a href=\"https:\/\/magnoliatribune.com\/2025\/08\/04\/seven-special-legislative-primary-elections-to-be-held-tuesday-august-5\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">state Senate and House districts<\/a> as part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/two-navy-veterans-set-to-square-off-in-ny-district-22-house-race\/\" title=\"Two Navy Veterans Set to Square Off in NY District 22 House Race\">court-ordered redistricting<\/a>.
