Gregg Abbott told the outlet Monday, &ldquo;New York and Illinois are two hallmark states that have already done redistricting to eliminate Republicans.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>He noted that the Democrats who fled his state are also <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >preventing critical flood-relief legislation<\/a> from receiving a vote.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I believe they have forfeited their seats in the state legislature because they are not doing the job they were elected to do,&rdquo; the governor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/facing-loss-nearly-half-house-seats-texas-dem-lawmakers-literally-flee-state-stop-gop-redistricting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Texans don&rsquo;t run from a fight&mdash;they face it head-on.<\/p>\n<p>These Texas Democrats that fled the state are not serving Texans. It&rsquo;s imperative that they be swiftly arrested, punished, and face the full force of the law for turning their backs on the people of Texas,&rdquo; he <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/KenPaxtonTX\/status\/1952467589554438645\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>, in part.<\/p>\n<p>Paxton referenced a Texas Supreme Court decision from 2021, when Democrats fled the state to prevent a quorum on legislation involving voting in the state.<\/p>\n<p>The Court <a href=\"https:\/\/www.txcourts.gov\/media\/1452658\/210667.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">held<\/a>, &ldquo;After examining the text and history of article III, section 10, together with the relevant judicial precedent, we conclude that the disputed provision means just what it says.
