Abandoning taxpayer-funded IVF could open opportunities for alternative, more ethical reproductive treatments, which would benefit babies, families, and America&#8217;s fertility future.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>President Donald Trump spent the last few months of his 2024 campaign <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/08\/30\/trump-announced-taxpayer-funded-ivf-plan-because-pro-lifers-failed-to-step-up\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">promising<\/a> to force taxpayers to foot the bill for a procedure that routinely destroys human life. His plans to pave the way for Americans to make &ldquo;more babies&rdquo; by subsidizing in vitro fertilization, however, are allegedly on hold.<\/p>\n<p>  The Washington Post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/business\/2025\/08\/03\/trump-administration-ivf-care\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> that as of Sunday, Trump&rsquo;s White House is allegedly &ldquo;backing away from proposals discussed internally to mandate IVF coverage for the roughly 50 million people on the Obamacare exchanges.&rdquo;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson told WaPo that Trump &ldquo;pledged to expand access to fertility treatments for Americans who are struggling to start families&rdquo; and is still &ldquo;committed like none before it to using its authorities to deliver on this pledge.&rdquo; As of now, however, that goal reportedly does not include taxpayer-funded IVF.<\/p>\n<p>WaPo&rsquo;s chief economics reporter Jeff Stein <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JStein_WaPo\/status\/1951976844024074252\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">painted the decision<\/a> as &ldquo;another apparent L from this admin for the conservative natalists.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<p>In reality, the Trump White House&rsquo;s decision to ditch his plans for taxpayer-funded IVF is more on par with his professed platform than ever before. Committing tax dollars to the <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >child-commodifying assisted reproductive technology<\/a> such as IVF goes against the pro-life, pro-family, and pro-Make America Healthy Again principles Trump supports.<\/p>\n<p>Big Fertility, whose biggest seller is IVF, routinely prioritizes&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/08\/14\/its-time-to-stop-treating-assisted-reproductive-technology-as-a-quick-fix-for-infertility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">profit over people<\/a>. The industry offers anyone and everyone, regardless of their relationship status or sexuality, to buy their way into parenthood&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/06\/22\/abortion-puts-selfish-wants-above-babies-rights-too-often-ivf-does-the-same\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">without regard for<\/a>&nbsp;children&rsquo;s natural rights. The consequences of this commodification include&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/07\/orchid-healths-genome-testing-promises-healthy-babies-but-delivers-morally-deplorable-eugenics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">normalized eugenics<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/06\/14\/california-bill-would-make-insurance-fund-unlimited-attempts-to-create-motherless-and-fatherless-children\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">forced orphanhood<\/a>, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/07\/22\/the-global-fertility-industry-seeks-to-erase-women-from-procreation-one-manufactured-egg-at-a-time\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">erasure of women<\/a>&nbsp;in reproduction,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/12\/14\/we-need-to-get-serious-about-meeting-advances-in-reproductive-tech-with-an-actionable-moral-framework\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fertility fraud<\/a>, more than a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/02\/02\/theres-only-one-way-for-the-1-million-embryos-stuck-in-frozen-orphanages-to-make-it-out-alive-adoption\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">million indefinitely frozen embryos<\/a>, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/03\/25\/what-if-we-can-heal-infertile-women-rather-than-turning-to-expensive-unethical-ivf-treatments-first\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">deliberate ignorance of women&rsquo;s health solutions<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Subsidizing IVF not only <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/09\/babies-by-any-means-necessary-wont-fix-the-wests-fertility-woes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">does little to fix the West&rsquo;s fertility woes<\/a>, including the record-low 1.6 birth rate recently announced by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, but also kills more unborn babies than abortion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholicnewsagency.com\/news\/257066\/more-human-embryos-destroyed-through-ivf-than-abortion-every-year\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">every year.<\/a> That&rsquo;s because approximately&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.heritage.org\/life\/report\/why-the-ivf-industry-must-be-regulated\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">93<\/a>&nbsp;to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/gop-attempts-define-position-discarding-ivf-embryos-pro-life-stances\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">97<\/a>&nbsp;percent of the test tube babies created in labs won&rsquo;t ever make it to the womb &mdash; and certainly not birth.<\/p>\n<p>Trump is easily the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/01\/24\/trumps-pardon-of-pro-life-prisoners-alone-makes-the-movements-votes-for-him-worth-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">most pro-life president in history<\/a>, but his popular baby-saving track record would be in danger if he pushed for even more widespread use of IVF. Contrary to corporate media claims, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/07\/12\/new-poll-overlooks-americans-ignorance-of-ivf-to-overstate-majority-support-for-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">nearly half of U.S. adults, 46 percent<\/a>, say &ldquo;a fertilized egg is a person with the same rights as a pregnant woman.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, Trump&rsquo;s emphasis on family and family formation would be endangered by all of the moral and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/report-dhs-group-called-being-religious-an-indicator-of-domestic-terrorism\/\" title=\"Report: DHS Group Labels &#039;Religious&#039; as an &#039;Indicator&#039; of Domestic Terrorism\">ethical dilemmas posed<\/a> by IVF-adjacent practices such as <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/06\/08\/popular-genetic-testing-pits-unborn-siblings-against-each-other-and-the-highest-scorer-gets-to-live\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/orchid-healths-genome-testing-promises-healthy-babies-but-delivers-morally-deplorable-eugenics\/\" title=\"Orchid Health&#039;s Gene Testing Offers &#039;Healthy ...&#039; Raises ...\">genetic embryo testing<\/a><\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thembeforeus.com\/the-sacrificing-of-excess-children-to-fulfill-adult-desires\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">premature embryo disposal<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/02\/02\/theres-only-one-way-for-the-1-million-embryos-stuck-in-frozen-orphanages-to-make-it-out-alive-adoption\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">indefinite embryo cryopreservation<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/07\/29\/rising-popularity-of-rent-a-womb-industry-emboldens-pedophiles-to-buy-proximity-to-kids\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pedophile-emboldening<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/03\/26\/big-fertility-harms-babies-and-women-so-why-are-we-celebrating-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">surrogacy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>One of the biggest enhancements Trump made to his second term was welcoming Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to the cabinet and elevating the MAHA movement with him. As I <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/02\/25\/making-america-healthy-again-starts-with-addressing-the-root-causes-of-infertility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">previously noted<\/a>, the Trump administration&rsquo;s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/02\/establishing-the-presidents-make-america-healthy-again-commission\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">adoption of the MAHA platform<\/a>&nbsp;and its commitment to &ldquo;promote health rather than just managing disease&rdquo; is only valid, though, if applied to all health issues, including the increasingly common disease of infertility. <\/p>\n<p>IVF does nothing to fix fertility issues. Instead, it pretends to treat <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/05\/17\/fat-and-infertile-new-study-raises-alarm-over-link-between-obesity-and-low-sperm-count\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">its symptoms<\/a>&nbsp;with a lengthy and costly technological procedure that guarantees nothing but the serial creation and destruction of little lives.<\/p>\n<p>Researching and adopting fertility policies that&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/03\/25\/what-if-we-can-heal-infertile-women-rather-than-turning-to-expensive-unethical-ivf-treatments-first\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">address the root causes of infertility<\/a>&nbsp;instead of treating&nbsp;is undoubtedly on par with the MAHA mission. If the Trump White House truly abandons taxpayer-funded IVF as an option, that leaves the door open for <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/08\/04\/why-restorative-reproductive-medicine-is-more-pro-woman-than-ivf\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pro-woman, pro-baby solutions like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ivf-kills-children-while-idolizing-them\/\" title=\"...: A Paradox of Life and Death\">restorative reproductive medicine<\/a><\/a> to get funding and airtime.<\/p>\n<p>If Trump is truly committed to his pro-life and MAHA reputations by ditching IVF subsidization as a legitimate policy option, that should be celebrated as a victory for not just babies, but families and the future of American fertility.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>      Jordan Boyd is a staff writer at The Federalist and producer of The Federalist Radio Hour.
