Tim Kaine of Virginia, Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York, Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire, and Ron Wyden of Oregon said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foreign.senate.gov\/press\/dem\/release\/shaheen-kaine-schumer-wyden-announce-intent-to-challenge-trumps-tariffs-on-brazil\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lawmakers<\/a> said they will file a privileged resolution, which allows the issue to head to the Senate floor for a vote. Beef and coffee, two major exports to the United States, are still included in the tariffs.<\/p>\n<p>The Trump administration has made no secret of its unhappiness with the Brazilian judge running <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/elon-musk-stands-foreign-judge-trying-censor-speech-x-resign-impeached\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bolsonaro&rsquo;s trial<\/a>. The former leader was charged with trying to stage a coup.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Alexandre de Moraes has taken it upon himself to be judge and jury in an unlawful witch hunt against U.S. and Brazilian citizens and companies,&rdquo; Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Bessent added that Moraes &ldquo;is responsible for an oppressive campaign of censorship, arbitrary detentions that violate human rights, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-slaps-brazil-with-40-tariffs-over-national-security-threat-to-us-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"Trump slaps ... with 40% ... over ... threat to US - Washington Examiner\">politicized prosecutions &#038;mdash<\/a>; including against former President Jair Bolsonaro.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Trump&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/07\/addressing-threats-to-the-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">executive order<\/a> noted the trial, but cited <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/massive-crowd-protests-socialist-brazilian-president-lula-targeting-trump-ally-israel-stance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">broader issues<\/a> with Brazil.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Recent policies, practices, and actions of the Government of Brazil threaten the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States.
