This trend was best illustrated in Texas, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3221626\/trump-wins-most-latino-county-vote-16-points\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Starr County\">Starr County<\/a> along the U.S.-Mexico border, the county with the highest percentage of Hispanics in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>The county had voted for Democrats in every <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/cdc-says-it-will-release-official-guidance-on-reopening-schools-this-week-biden-says-he-will-comply\/\" title=\"CDC Says It Will Release Official Guidance On Reopening Schools This Week, Biden Says He Will Comply\">presidential election&#038;nbsp<\/a>;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RyanGirdusky\/status\/1854019263478042758?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1854019263478042758%7Ctwgr%5Ef978169a3716be3860a88cb1e899b29f16781222%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.newsweek.com%2Fstarr-county-texas-most-hispanic-county-donald-trump-1981230\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">since<\/a>&nbsp;1892,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/uselectionatlas.org\/RESULTS\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">usually by<\/a>&nbsp;80%-90%. Previously, the only outliers were Richard Nixon&rsquo;s landslide in 1972 and the 2020 election, in which the Democratic share was in the 50% range. In November, Trump finally flipped the county with 57.7% of the vote.<\/p>\n<p>Texas Republicans are counting on this trend to continue past the age of Trump.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Hispanic communities are sick and tired of radical Democrats turning their backs on them time and again,&rdquo; National Republican Congressional Committee Hispanic press secretary Christian Martinez <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2025\/07\/31\/republicans-texas-redistricting-latino-voters-00485890?nname=playbook&amp;nid=0000014f-1646-d88f-a1cf-5f46b7bd0000&amp;nrid=68612869-219e-4598-998c-18bb7c1f30b7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"told\">told<\/a> <em>Politico<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Some analysts aren&rsquo;t so sure, cautioning against conflating Trump&rsquo;s gains with Hispanic voters and Republicans&rsquo; gains. Hispanics are much more likely to split their ticket, with many voting for Trump and Democratic candidates in 2024. Of the <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >13 congressional districts<\/a> that elected Trump and a House Democrat, six were at least 40% Hispanic, with two of these in Texas. Trump outperformed Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) in counties that were at least 75% Hispanic by 8.6%.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;[Republicans] are confusing the gains that Trump the individual made with support for the Republican Party,&rdquo; pollster Matt Barreto said. &ldquo;There is a Trump effect that is not transferable to Republicans.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>With Trump off the ticket in 2026 and 2028, Republicans could see their gains with Hispanics recede. But when he&rsquo;s not on the ticket, some of that support erodes.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Despite the risk, Republicans do have plenty of reasons to remain optimistic. The share of Hispanics voting for Republicans shot from 29% in 2018 to 43% in 2024, according to Catalist data.
