While Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcdfw.com\/news\/politics\/lone-star-politics\/ag-paxton-doj-texas-race-based-maps\/3895046\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">defended the legality<\/a>&nbsp;of the districts, Republican Gov. Greg Abbott cited &ldquo;constitutional&nbsp;concerns&nbsp;raised&nbsp;by&nbsp;the&nbsp;U.S.&nbsp;Department&nbsp;of&nbsp;Justice&rdquo; when calling for the special legislative session to consider new maps.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats are on defense in the House, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hakeem-jeffries-to-visit-texas-and-california-over-redistricting-push-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"Hakeem Jeffries to ... and California over ... - Washington Examiner\">41 seats rated competitive compared<\/a> to the 29 marked competitive for the GOP. Democrats only need a net gain of three seats to flip the House.
