He defended Trump-era immigration policies, while Van Hollen and others argued that moast ICE detainees have no criminal records and pose no threat. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem responded by highlighting the criminal backgrounds of some detainees and accusing Van Hollen of protecting dangerous individuals. Instead, Van Hollen was &ldquo;silent&rdquo; on those matters, Homan said. Meanwhile, Van Hollen criticized Homan&rsquo;s policies that led to the detention of alleged gang member <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/3384229\/van-hollen-meets-abrego-garcia-el-salvador-failed-attempts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Kilmar Abrego Garcia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;President Trump is keeping his promise to the American people, and they can&rsquo;t stand it. They want to flip the script. They want to mismessage the American people,&rdquo; Homan said. &ldquo;Well, it&rsquo;s not working.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The Maryland delegation said they requested to visit the George H. Fallon building even though they &ldquo;didn&rsquo;t need to.&rdquo; However, the Department of Homeland Security said the request was not made in a timely manner.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;As for visits to detention facilities, requests should be made with sufficient time to prevent interference with the President&rsquo;s Article II authority to oversee executive department functions &mdash; a week is sufficient to ensure no intrusion on the President&rsquo;s constitutional authority,&rdquo; DHS wrote on X.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;To protect the President&rsquo;s Article II authority, any request to shorten that time must be approved by the Secretary,&rdquo; it added.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">More lies from <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Sec_Noem?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Sec_Noem<\/a> &amp; DHS.
