This inquiry aims to assess potential harm caused by misinformation about treatments such as hormone therapy, speech therapy, and surgical procedures intended to support transgender youth. The FTC is investigating whether medical providers or others may have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/report-state-ags-investigate-instagrams-impact-on-children\/\" title=\"Report: State AGs Investigate Instagram&#039;s Impact on Children\">violated consumer protection laws<\/a> by failing to disclose risks or making unsubstantiated claims about these treatments. The request for input follows a January executive order from former President Donald Trump that directed the government to end support for gender-affirming care,describing such procedures as harmful and life-altering. The FTC also recently held a workshop on the subject, with chairman Andrew Ferguson criticizing current policies and sharing stories of individuals who regretted transitioning. Some healthcare providers, including kaiser Permanente and D.C. Children&#8217;s National Hospital, have <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >ceased offering transgender-related treatments<\/a> to minors. Many proponents have said the treatment can be life-saving for LGBT youths, but opponents describe it as child abuse.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The FTC seeks to evaluate whether consumers (in particular, minors) have been harmed and whether medical professionals or others may have violated Sections 5 and 12 of the FTC Act by failing to disclose material risks associated with &lsquo;gender-affirming care&rsquo; or making false or unsubstantiated claims about the benefits or effectiveness of &lsquo;gender-affirming care,&#8217;&rdquo; they added in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the inquiry, the FTC is asking the public questions concerning whether they&rsquo;ve ever visited a healthcare provider that has recommended &ldquo;gender-affirming&rdquo; care, whether they have ever received it, whether they are aware of any providers treating patients with &ldquo;gender-affirming&rdquo; care, and whether they are aware of any people or entities promoting or advertising the care.<\/p>\n<p>The agency <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ftc.gov\/system\/files\/ftc_gov\/pdf\/chairman-ferguson-gender-affirming-care-workshop-speech.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">held a workshop on<\/a> &ldquo;gender-affirming&rdquo; care earlier this month. FTC Chairman Andrew Ferguson, a Republican, spoke during the meeting in support of eliminating &ldquo;gender-affirming&rdquo; care.<\/p>\n<p>He slammed the Biden administration for its policies on the issue before telling stories about people who regretted transitioning.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Unfortunately, these stories are common,&rdquo; he said. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The path to puberty blockers, hormone injections, and sex-change surgery often begins with a young person struggling with various mental health issues, who recently underwent a personal crisis. At a loss for how to help their child, parents seek the advice of medical specialists who they believe will provide objective, evidence-based guidance,&rdquo; he added.<\/p>\n<p>Ferguson then said parents are confronted with a question of whether they should consent to the special care or see their child die or be at risk of committing suicide.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;As one of the most public champions of these therapies explained more than a decade ago, we often ask parents, &lsquo;Would you rather have a dead son than a live daughter?&rsquo;&rdquo; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Kaiser Permanente, one of the country&rsquo;s largest&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/health\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">healthcare<\/a>&nbsp;providers, announced last week that it plans to halt&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/transgender\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">transgender<\/a>&nbsp;operations on minors. D.C.
