Democratic candidate Abigail Spanberger leads Republican Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears by 11.4% in the governor&#8217;s race, with a 96% chance of winning. Democrats are also expected to <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >expand thier narrow majority<\/a> in the House of Delegates, potentially flipping seven Republican seats for a 58-42 lead. While President donald Trump&#8217;s influence remains a factor, especially in Northern Virginia, his unpopularity there may limit Republican gains. Political analyst Larry Sabato called the forecast bold but cautioned that the race could still tighten. Regardless of the outcome, Virginia is poised to elect it&#8217;s first female governor. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears<\/a>, appear headed for a Democratic rout, according to the long-awaited <a href=\"https:\/\/statenavigate.org\/election-forecasts-show-democrats-overwhelmingly-favored-in-virginia-2025-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">State Navigate<\/a> analysis of the election.<\/p>\n<p>The nonpartisan group on Monday released its review of the races and found Republican gubernatorial nominee Earle-Sears behind former Democratic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/state\/3426166\/independent-womens-voice-sunlight-campaign-abigail-spanberger\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Rep. Abigail Spanberger<\/a> by 11.4%. Glenn Youngkin, who is term-limited to one four-year stint. He is a possible 2028 presidential candidate.<\/p>\n<p>In the House of Delegates races, Democrats are set to flip seven Republican seats for a possible advantage of 58-42 in the capital of Richmond. They currently hold the majority of Senate seats, 21-19. However, he lost the state in 2024 to former Vice President Kamala Harris by over five points.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/centerforpolitics.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Sabato-Bio-202520.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Larry Sabato<\/a>, the founder of the University of Virginia&rsquo;s Center for Politics, called the State Navigate prediction &ldquo;bold.&rdquo; Sabato, however, isn&rsquo;t closing the door to a tight election, noting that Earle-Sears has won two races as an underdog. &ldquo;That&rsquo;s another reason not to bring down the curtain too early,&rdquo; he told Secrets<em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Sabato also pointed out that Republican state <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/3468650\/republican-group-dumps-2-million-virginia-attorney-general-race\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Attorney General Jason Miyares<\/a>, the only incumbent on the commonwealth-wide ticket, is well funded.<\/p>\n<p>The State Navigate analysis agreed that the race is still forming.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We&rsquo;re at the beginning of the track, and the results from 2024 bode well for Democrats,&rdquo; said the new analysis. &ldquo;We&rsquo;re just past the quarter mile. We&rsquo;re rapidly approaching the end of the gubernatorial quarter mile, and Democrats are over 400 yards ahead of the Republicans,&rdquo; it added.<\/p>\n<p>Earle-Sears appeared to start her campaign slowly and recently dumped her campaign manager. She has been hitting Spanberger&rsquo;s liberal record.<\/p>\n<p>Spanberger, meanwhile, has outraised Earle-Sears 2-to-1 and maintains a sizable lead in polls.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">No matter who wins, it will be another&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/cawp.rutgers.edu\/news-media\/press-releases\/virginia-will-elect-its-first-woman-governor\" target=\"_blank\">historic step for Virginia<\/a>, as a woman has never led the state a<\/span>s governor.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/washington-secrets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SEE THE LATEST POLITICAL NEWS AND BUZZ FROM WASHINGTON SECRETS<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The State Navigate analysis noted that Virginia has a history of electing governors from the opposite party of the new president, though Youngkin won the year after the nation voted in former Democratic President Joe Biden.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The commonwealth has typically been seen as a catalyst for how the party out of power from the White House should go forward in its messaging in the following midterm elections, and a barometer for public opinion on the incumbent president.
