However, multiple Democrats requested to be recorded as voting &ldquo;no&rdquo; on specific nominees.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting was interrupted by protesters who shouted objections to Pirro&rsquo;s nomination, reflecting the deep partisan divide over her selection.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats on the committee delivered blistering statements accusing Pirro of being unfit to lead the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/department-of-justice\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Justice Department<\/a> office responsible for prosecuting January 6 cases and <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >overseeing major federal investigations<\/a> in the nation&rsquo;s capital.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/dick-durbin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sen. Dick Durbin<\/a>&nbsp;(D-IL) criticized Pirro for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/unfit-serve-jeanine-pirro-made-113359628.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">once suggesting<\/a> Jan. 6 defendants were political &ldquo;hostages,&rdquo; questioning her impartiality and alleging she supported the firing of career prosecutors handling riot-related cases.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;She initially condemned the January 6 rioters and their attack on the Capitol, and then did an about-face,&rdquo; Durbin said, pointing to Pirro&rsquo;s televised remarks and recent personnel changes within the D.C. U.S. attorney&rsquo;s office.<\/p>\n<p>Pirro&rsquo;s Democratic-appointed predecessor, Matthew Graves, was responsible for bringing hundreds of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/protesters-defend-protests-say-protection-around-capitol-building-was-inadequate\/\" title=\"Protesters defend protests, say protection around Capitol building was inadequate\">federal charges<\/a> against Jan. 6 defendants, dozens of which were subject to revision after the Supreme Court decided last year that obstruction charges he tacked on to several cases <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/3152409\/doj-drops-jan-6-obstruction-charges-more-than-half-pending-cases\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">were an overbroad misuse of 18 U.S.C. &sect; 1512(c)(2)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Other Democrats, including&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/mazie-hirono\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sens. Mazie Hirono<\/a> (D-HI),&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/chris-coons\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Chris Coons<\/a> (D-DE), and&nbsp;Alex Padilla (D-CA), questioned Pirro&rsquo;s qualifications and ethics, claiming that she endorsed Trump&rsquo;s views about irregularities in the 2020 election and citing her history as a media personality and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/justice-department\/salacious-scandal-derailed-jeanine-pirros-political-career-rcna205801\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"past federal investigation involving her ex-husband.\">past federal investigation involving her ex-husband.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This is not someone who cares about crimes of sexual assault and sexual harassment,&rdquo; Hirono said. &ldquo;She is someone who cares about political revenge.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3424061\/jeanine-pirro-swearing-in-overshadowed-trump-foreign-policy-questions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">JEANINE PIRRO SWEARING-IN OVERSHADOWED BY TENSE QUESTIONS TRUMP ON FOREIGN POLICY<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Republicans defended Pirro&rsquo;s nomination and expressed confidence in her ability to lead the&nbsp;D.C.
