The group included two Tu-95 Bear bombers and two Su-35 Flanker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/kushner-nominated-for-nobel-peace-prize\/\" title=\"Kushner Nominated for Nobel Peace Prize\">fighter jets<\/a>. Detected by the north American Aerospace defense Command (NORAD) while operating in the Alaskan Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ), these Russian planes failed to identify themselves as required in this international but closely monitored airspace. In response, NORAD deployed fighter jets, including F-35s and F-16s, to identify, monitor, intercept, and escort the Russian aircraft out of the zone. While the Russian planes did not enter U.S. or Canadian sovereign airspace and claimed to be on a training mission, NORAD noted that such Russian activity in the ADIZ is frequent but not considered a direct threat. Nevertheless, NORAD emphasized its readiness to defend north America through a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/us-military-on-the-move-carrier-strike-group-ordered-to-eastern-mediterranean\/\" title=\"US Military Mobilizes: Carrier Strike Group Heads to Eastern Mediterranean\">layered defense system<\/a> of satellites, radars, and fighter jets. The other planes were two Su-35 Flanker fighter jets, reported <em>Air &amp; Space Forces Magazine<\/em>. The Alaskan ADIZ is a &ldquo;buffer for air defense,&rdquo; according to Air &amp; Space Forces Magazine. And while it is regarded as international airspace, any aircraft flying through the Alaska ADIZ is supposed to identify itself, which the Russian planes apparently did not do.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>NORAD subsequently deployed fighter jets to &ldquo;positively identify, monitor, intercept, and escort them out of the Alaskan ADIZ,&rdquo; <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.airandspaceforces.com\/norad-intercepts-russian-bombers-fighters-near-alaska\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> an official from the joint U.S.-Canadian command. It included &#8203;&#8203;two U.S. Air Force F-35s and four F-16s and several other support aircraft, according to <em>Air &amp; Space Forces Magazine<\/em>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It&rsquo;s the latest confrontation between U.S. and Russian fighter jets, for which there has been a steady uptick in recent months. In a particular tense interaction in September 2024, a Su-35 cut off a U.S. F-16, engaging in what is known as a &ldquo;headbutt maneuver,&rdquo; <em>Air &amp; Space Forces Magazine<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The conduct of one Russian Su-35 was unsafe, unprofessional, and endangered all &mdash; not what you&rsquo;d see in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/russia-flying-more-armed-aircraft-over-us-bases\/\" title=\"Russia flying more armed ... over US bases\">professional air force<\/a>,&rdquo; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airandspaceforces.com\/norad-intercepts-russian-bombers-fighters-near-alaska\/\" title=\"\">said<\/a> NORAD Cmdr. Air Force Gen. Gregory Guillot about the close call.<\/p>\n<p>According to reports, the Russian aircraft flew in the ADIZ for over three hours.
