Although the lawsuit was dismissed by mutual agreement, Retzlaff admitted to premarital sex, violating BYU&#8217;s honor code and resulting in a suspension for the first seven games of the season. Retzlaff announced his withdrawal from BYU and commitment to Tulane, where he will join as a walk-on and compete for the <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >starting quarterback role<\/a>. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deseret.com\/sports\/2025\/07\/21\/jake-retzlaff-transferring-tulane-byu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Deseret News<\/a>&nbsp;reported that it confirmed Retzlaff&rsquo;s plans to enter the New Orleans college after previously announcing that he would leave BYU.<\/p>\n<p>Tulane said that it investigated the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/video-nancy-mace-drops-jaws-surprise-rape-claims-house-floor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rape allegations<\/a> against Retzlaff, ESPN reported.<\/p>\n<p>Retzlaff will enroll in Tulane and will technically be a walk-on when he tries out for the starting spot. Former Tulane quarterback TJ Finley transferred this spring after an arrest, leading the college to recruit three other transfers to fill the void.<\/p>\n<p>ESPN reported that Retzlaff has been told he is not assured the starting spot. That meant he would be suspended for the first seven games of this season, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/21\/sports\/ex-byu-qb-jake-retzlaff-commits-to-tulane-after-rape-allegations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York Post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Several days after the suit was settled, Retzlaff announced he was leaving BYU.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;After a lot of prayer, reflection, and conversations with those I trust, I&rsquo;ve made the difficult decision to officially withdraw from BYU and step away from the BYU Football program,&rdquo; he wrote on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DL-uRqPxP9Y\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Instagram<\/a> earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I&rsquo;m excited to turn the page and embrace this next chapter,&rdquo; he wrote. &ldquo;My journey is far from over &mdash; and I&rsquo;m more motivated than ever to keep chasing my dreams.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>In response, the college issued a statement that said, &ldquo;We are grateful for the time Jake Retzlaff has spent at BYU. As he moves forward, BYU Athletics understands and respects Jake&rsquo;s decision to withdraw from BYU, and we wish him all the best as he enters the next phase of his career.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Last year, Retzlaff threw for almost 3,000 yards with 26 touchdowns against 12 interceptions.
