DHS strongly refuted these allegations, stating that all detainees receive adequate meals, medical care, and opportunities to communicate with family and lawyers. The meals are certified by dieticians, and ICE prioritizes the safety and well-being of those in custody. Rubimar said without giving a last name.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Homeland Security blasted NBC News in its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/news\/2025\/07\/14\/fact-check-ice-provides-multiple-meals-day-criminal-illegal-aliens-held-detention\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">press release<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Today, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is setting the record straight on NBC&rsquo;s false claims that illegal aliens who are held at Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facilities are receiving inadequate amounts of food,&rdquo; the release read.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;All detainees are provided with proper meals, medical treatment and have opportunities to communicate with their family members and lawyers,&rdquo; Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin was quoted as saying.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Meals are certified by dieticians. Ensuring the safety, security, and well-being of individuals in our custody is a top priority at ICE. DHS is setting the record straight on NBC&rsquo;s FALSE claims that illegal aliens who are held at ICE detention facilities are receiving inadequate amounts of food. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/8MaRmIOHmQ\">pic.twitter.com\/8MaRmIOHmQ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Homeland Security (@DHSgov) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DHSgov\/status\/1944862085587845571?\">July 14, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>In total, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/tom-homan-turns-tables-anti-ice-heckler-interrupting-speech-student-summit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ICE<\/a> fact-checked four of NBC&rsquo;s claims.<\/p>\n<p>One allegation said that in April, 57 detainees at a facility in Tacoma, Washington, were struck with foodborne illness after <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >reportedly eating reheated collard greens<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The facility notified the Health Department about the incident, and according to NBC News, the collard greens tested positive for Bacillus cereus, which causes food illness.<\/p>\n<p>ICE partially refuted the claim.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;While the Health Department was notified, the on-site medical team concluded that there was no evidence linking the illness to a specific food item, as claimed by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/biden-administration-releases-original-guantanamo-bay-detainee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">detainees<\/a>,&rdquo; the news release said.<\/p>\n<p>NBC News also reported that detainees&rsquo; portion sizes are smaller than they were last year, and that they sometimes aren&rsquo;t fed dinner until midnight.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Allegations that there are chronic food shortages are unequivocally false.
