Majorly, people who are very new in their faith &mdash; they suffer,&rdquo; said Pastor Sam from New Delhi, who asked to remain anonymous.<\/p>\n<p>If the Indian government learned that Pastor Sam d his testimony with the American media, he could be thrown in jail for treason.<\/p>\n<p>One American minister, &ldquo;Pastor John,&rdquo; documented such persecution in a 2025 documentary called, &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/rumble.com\/v6u81fp-the-blatant-agenda-of-the-bjp-government-eradicating-christianity-in-india.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Blatant Agenda of the BJP Government: Eradicating Christianity in India<\/a>.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><script>!function(r,u,m,b,l,e){r._Rumble=b,r[b]||(r[b]=function(){(r[b]._=r[b]._||[]).push(arguments);if(r[b]._.length==1){l=u.createElement(m),e=u.getElementsByTagName(m)[0],l.async=1,l.src=\"https:\/\/rumble.com\/embedJS\/u4\"+(arguments[1].video?'.'+arguments[1].video:'')+\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/?url=\"+encodeURIComponent(location.href)+\"&args=\"+encodeURIComponent(JSON.stringify([].slice.apply(arguments))),e.parentNode.insertBefore(l,e)}})}(window, document, \"script\", \"Rumble\");<\/script><\/p>\n<p><script> Rumble(\"play\", {\"video\":\"v6s156v\",\"div\":\"rumble_v6s156v\"});<\/script><\/p>\n<p>Pastor John also wished to remain anonymous for the safety of his fellow pastors in India.<\/p>\n<p>Since 1986 he has visited India two or three times a year.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I used to do big open-air outreaches with up to 10,000 people, and nowadays, I can&rsquo;t even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/museum-dedicated-to-lebron-james-to-open-in-hometown-of-akron\/\" title=\"Museum dedicated to LeBron James to open in hometown of Akron\">step foot inside<\/a> a local church without possibly endangering the pastor&rsquo;s life, and if they catch me going into that church &mdash; deporting me,&rdquo; Pastor John told The Western Journal.<\/p>\n<p>The Bharatiya Janata Party, one of India&rsquo;s two major political parties, is the mastermind of the persecution, according to the documentary.<\/p>\n<p>But it&rsquo;s often <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/dozens-killed-worlds-largest-hindu-festival-crowd-stampedes-toward-sacred-waters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hindu<\/a> extremist organizations and radicals who carry the persecution out.<\/p>\n<p>The paramilitary group Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, and the violent youth movement Bajrang Dal are some of the worst, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/globalchristianrelief.org\/christian-persecution\/countries\/india\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Global Christian Relief<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Such groups, along with the BJP, believe in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/topic\/Hindutva\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hindutva<\/a>, a fascist ideology seeking to make India exclusively Hindu.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;70 percent of India is Hindus,&rdquo; Pastor Sam told The Western Journal. &ldquo;So, if they can radicalize them all, they stay in power because they have an agenda to eradicate other religions from India. He comes across like he&rsquo;s all for democracy and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/india-shows-respect-trump-cleans-parts-taj-mahal-never-touched-obama\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trump&rsquo;s buddy-buddy<\/a>,&rdquo; Pastor John said.<\/p>\n<p>Along with Modi, Pastor John&rsquo;s documentary blamed two other Indian leaders for the persecution: the Minister of Home Affairs Amit Shah and the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath.<\/p>\n<p>The persecution usually manifests in three forms, Pastor Sam said.<\/p>\n<p>The first is by mob attack, which Pastor Sam experienced in 2019 and said is the worst kind.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Dehradun <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Church?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Church<\/a> Attack<\/p>\n<p>Terrorists attacked and vandalized a Christian church in Dehradun, India, demolishing furniture and brutally beating Christians gathered for prayer. This highlights the escalating persecution of Christians in India since Modi&rsquo;s government took over. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/zMPI30hJDC\">pic.twitter.com\/zMPI30hJDC<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Julia Kendrick (@JuKrick) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JuKrick\/status\/1915090043883974833?\">April 23, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The second is administrative, examples of which are endless.<\/p>\n<p>For instance, the Indian government makes it nearly impossible for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/christian-author-fired-trumps-kennedy-center-biblical-values-strikingly-christlike-request-fellow-christians\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Christians<\/a> to own a church building. Consequently, ministries will instead rent a banquet hall or auditorium.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;And when we tell [the auditors] that this is for running the church service, then they will say that a banquet hall is not a place where you run the church service,&rdquo; Pastor Sam said. &ldquo;So they tell us that we have inappropriately used our funds.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The third kind of persecution is disinformation, in which the government will lie about Christians, usually through social media, tracts and pamphlets distributed to the public.<\/p>\n<p>Strictly speaking, Christianity is not forbidden in India. In fact, believers can even walk around with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/teen-reportedly-arrested-handing-bibles-response-proves-isnt-backing-gospel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bibles<\/a>, Pastor Sam said.<\/p>\n<p>But in the last 15 years the BJP implemented <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/pope-francis-meets-with-indian-prime-minister-narendra-modi\/\" title=\"Pope Francis Meets with ...\">anti-conversion laws<\/a>, which, along with the persecution, make it increasingly difficult to follow the faith.<\/p>\n<p>Such laws severely limit or prohibit evangelizing. They also shift the burden of proof: Those accused of violating the law are presumed guilty, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uscirf.gov\/publications\/indias-state-level-anti-conversion-laws\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">United States Commission of International Religious Freedom<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>At least 12 of India&rsquo;s 28 states have implemented anti-conversion laws, according to a 2023 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uscirf.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/2023%20India%20Apostasy%20Issue%20Update.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">USCIRF<\/a> update.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes, the laws and persecution have the intended effect.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;You&rsquo;ve got hundreds of pastors sitting in jail right now with many of them given life sentences, and they&rsquo;ve done nothing wrong. All they did is preach the Gospel,&rdquo; Pastor John said.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes, the laws backfire.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;There have been instances in which people have been put in prison and they have preached the Gospel in prison.
