According to the third-quarter survey conducted by the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce and Pinkston Business leader Survey,40% of respondents expect economic growth in the next six months,a notable enhancement from April when pessimism was higher. While tariffs and DOGE still pose uncertainties, some companies are cautious about expanding operations. DOGE remains the top concern, with 80% worried about its impact on the regional economy, though over half of the businesses reported no direct effect recently. Tariff concerns have also decreased, with fewer business leaders expecting harm from tariff policies. despite federal-level challenges, Northern Virginia business leaders express resilience and a more positive outlook for their companies’ future.

Northern Virginia business leaders show confidence boost in face of tariffs and DOGE cuts

Northern Virginia business leaders expressed a turnaround in confidence after a rough showing in April, but skepticism remained in the face of tariffs and cuts from the Department of Government Efficiency.

In the third quarter Northern Virginia’s Chamber of Commerce and Pinkston Business Leader Survey, business leaders voiced increased optimism about the economy, with 40% believing the economy would grow over the next six months and 26% expecting it to remain stable.
