This approval, along with four othre district court nominees from the Trump administration, occurred amid a Democratic walkout protesting what they described as an abuse of committee process and being denied a chance to speak. Democrats, led by Senator Cory Booker, criticized bove for actions that allegedly undermined federal prosecutors, including his involvement in the removal of prosecutors handling January 6 riot cases, the dismissal of corruption charges against New York City Mayor Eric Adams, and suggestions that the DOJ ignore court orders on immigration. Over 900 former DOJ attorneys opposed his confirmation. Bove denied these allegations under oath, maintaining that all decisions were legally grounded and based on prosecutorial discretion. Attorney General Pam Bondi and Republican lawmakers defended Bove as a principled nominee. the committee also considered other judicial and U.S. Attorney nominees during the session.

Senate Judiciary Committee advances five Trump judicial picks, including Emil Bove, as Democrats stage walkout

The Senate Judiciary Committee advanced the nomination of Emil Bove, a senior Justice Department official and former personal attorney to President Donald Trump, to the Third U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Thursday, as Democrats staged a walkout over what they called an abuse of committee process.

The panel approved Bove and four district court nominees along party lines, moving the Trump administration’s latest slate of judicial picks closer to confirmation.
