CASA. <\/em>The decision effectively struck down district courts&rsquo; ability to issue universal injunctions, which block laws or policies from being enforced against anyone. The Supreme Court instead limited lower court injunctions to the parties before the court.<\/p>\n<p>The decision was a key victory for the Trump administration in reducing the sweeping injunctions placed against policies as they are litigated in court. Nevertheless, opponents were able to get a similarly wide injunction for the president&rsquo;s birthright citizenship order despite the Supreme Court ruling.<\/p>\n<p>In the aftermath of <em>Trump v. CASA<\/em>, legal scholars and experts, along with some of the justices in the decision itself, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/supreme-court\/3456163\/supreme-court-death-knell-universal-injunctions-changes-trump-legal-landscape\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"pointed out\">pointed out<\/a> that a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/supreme-courts-universal-injunctions-ruling-changes-legal-landscape\/\" title=\"Supreme ...&#039;s ...s ... changes legal landscape\">nationwide class action certification<\/a> could achieve similar sweeping halts on certain types of government actions.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after the June 27 decision, the ACLU filed a lawsuit against Trump&rsquo;s birthright citizenship order in the New Hampshire federal district court and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/3459391\/liberal-groups-explore-class-action-lawsuits-supreme-court-universal-injunctions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"requested a nationwide class certification\">requested a nationwide class certification<\/a> for those who could be affected by the order. United States District Judge Joseph Laplante granted the order for a preliminary injunction and the provisional class certification, effectively blocking the executive order nationwide from being enforced against those who would be affected by it.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-legal-wins-muddled-by-continued-lower-court-losses-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"... by ... lower ... losses - Washington Examiner\">sweeping preliminary injunction essentially replicates<\/a> the effect of a universal injunction.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Supreme Court emergency docket wins and injunctions pile up for Trump<\/h2>\n<p>The Trump administration has filled the Supreme Court&rsquo;s emergency docket with requests to stay lower court orders, and the administration has largely been successful in its pleas. Despite the success in staying lower court orders, <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >additional lower court orders blocking aspects<\/a> of the president&rsquo;s agenda continue to be handed down.<\/p>\n<p>In recent weeks, the Supreme Court handed Trump wins in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/3451537\/supreme-court-trump-immigration-allowed-deport-third-countries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"allowing his administration\">allowing his administration<\/a> to deport illegal immigrants to countries other than their country of origin and to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/3465931\/supreme-court-federal-firings-trump-plan-cut-federal-workforce\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"allowing his administration\">proceed with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/appeals-court-keeps-block-on-doge-federal-workforce-cuts-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"Appeals ... keeps block on DOGE federal workforce cuts - Washington Examiner\">sweeping federal workforce cuts<\/a><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Still, opponents of the president have been able to have judges place new pauses on different Trump policies.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. District Court for the Central District of California <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/immigration\/3469385\/judge-orders-trump-administration-halt-immigration-stops-california\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"issued a restrictions\">issued restrictions<\/a> on the conduct of immigration raids by federal authorities in the judicial district, which includes Los Angeles. Judge Maame Ewusi-Mensah Frimpong ordered that&nbsp;federal immigration&nbsp;officers&nbsp;may not&nbsp;rely on apparent race, language spoken, location, or job as sole reasons to inquire about a person&rsquo;s immigration status.<\/p>\n<p>The Justice Department has appealed the ruling, but if the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit does not grant a stay of the order, which the administration has requested, it could end up before the Supreme Court in the emergency docket.<\/p>\n<p>Another <span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">recent loss for the Trump administration came with a provision in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which was passed by Congress and signed into law by the president earlier this month. Judge Indira Talwani of the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/healthcare\/3468733\/trump-doj-files-lift-judge-pause-planned-parenthood-defunding-measure\/\" target=\"_blank\">blocked a provision of the law<\/a>&nbsp;that<\/span> cut Medicaid funding for&nbsp;Planned Parenthood&nbsp;clinics.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Continued legal headaches for Trump administration in district courts<\/h2>\n<p>The Trump administration also faces lawsuits that are causing it continued headaches.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Justice&rsquo;s legal saga over the deportation of Salvadoran national Kilmar Abrego Garcia in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland is ongoing, with Judge Paula Xinis considering blocking the Trump administration from quickly deporting Abrego Garcia.<\/p>\n<p>The legal battle over Abrego Garcia began in March, when he was deported to El Salvador. Despite an order preventing him from being deported there, it allowed him to be deported to any other country. The illegal immigrant was&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/3434113\/abrego-garcia-returning-us-charges-human-smuggling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">brought back to the U.S.<\/a>&nbsp;in June to be arraigned on criminal human smuggling charges, but a judge ruled he&nbsp;could be released from prison pending&nbsp;a&nbsp;trial&nbsp;on those charges.&nbsp;The Trump administration has previously said it intends to deport&nbsp;Abrego Garcia if he is released from prison.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/3467744\/judge-birthright-citizenship-blocks-trump-order-nationwide-class-action-case\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"JUDGE BLOCKS TRUMP BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP ORDER IN NATIONWIDE CLASS ACTION CASE\">JUDGE BLOCKS TRUMP BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP ORDER IN NATIONWIDE CLASS ACTION CASE<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Another case, which has continued at the district court level, pertains to the president&rsquo;s deployment of the National Guard to Los Angeles to protect federal property and agents amid unrest over immigration enforcement operations.
