The fire started late Sunday evening, and around 70 residents lived in the facility. The fire was extinguished by monday morning, with many survivors taken to local hospitals in varying conditions. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire. About 50 firefighters responded, including 30 who were off-duty.<\/p>\n<p>Many of those rescued were taken to local and regional hospitals in varying conditions. Five firefighters suffered injuries that were not life-threatening, the statement said.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This is an unfathomable tragedy for the families involved and the Fall River community,&rdquo; said Chief Jeffrey Bacon.<\/p>\n<p>He told reporters that &ldquo;multiple people were hanging out the windows, looking to be rescued.&rdquo; Family members who showed up said police were trying to break windows.<\/p>\n<p>Leo Johnson, 45, of Fall River, told the <em>Boston Globe<\/em> he rushed over to find his 68-year-old mother, who lives on the top floor of Gabriel House.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I was kinda freaking out because she wasn&rsquo;t one of the ones outside,&rdquo; he said. He eventually found her, saying she was outside, soaking wet because the sprinklers were going off.<\/p>\n<p>The Fall River Police Department said in a statement that &ldquo;without hesitation, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/115-inmates-take-over-section-of-st-louis-mo-jail\/\" title=\"115 inmates take over section of St. Louis, Mo. jail\">officers entered<\/a> the smoke-filled facility, breaking down doors and escorting residents to safety.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Approximately a dozen non-ambulatory residents were physically carried out by our officers.
