Jason Smith (R-MO) has raised concerns regarding the accuracy of the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) after its analysis of the &#8220;big, beautiful bill,&#8221; which suggests the legislation could add trillions to the national debt. In recent comments on Fox News&#8217;s *Sunday Morning Futures*, Smith criticized the CBO&#8217;s prior projections, noting they were significantly off in previous evaluations, including the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which they projected would increase the deficit by $1.5 trillion but rather saw a revenue increase. He claimed that the CBO&#8217;s estimations for the One Big Beautiful Bill indicated a potential debt increase of $6 trillion for the House version and $3.3 trillion for the senate version. Smith and former Rep. Jason chaffetz called for reforms to the CBO, suggesting its figures are unreliable. Jason Chaffetz referred to the CBO as &ldquo;the big lie.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Why does Congress continue to put up with the Congressional Budget Office?&rdquo; Chaffetz asked Smith Sunday. &ldquo;I mean they&rsquo;re nowhere close, they&rsquo;re not even in the ballpark of accuracy, and yet members all rely on them. Isn&rsquo;t it time to just get rid of the Congressional Budget Office?&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;There&rsquo;s no question, Jason, there needs to be reforms, and it needs to be addressed,&rdquo; Smith said. &ldquo;Because just in the 2017 Tax Cut and Jobs Act alone, they were off by $1.7 trillion in their projected revenues. We cut over $500 billion in this bill. So if it only cost $282 billion, how do you cut $500 billion?&rdquo; Smith went on. &ldquo;Their numbers are crazy. Goldman Sachs said that, in fact, that number is $1.2 trillion of Green Credits from the IRA.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Chaffetz also noted that revenue to the Treasury went up following the 2017 law when the CBO predicted it would go down.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> reached out to the CBO for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the White House Council of Economic Advisers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3453526\/white-house-predicts-2-3t-growth-induced-cea-deficit-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">reported<\/a> that the Senate&rsquo;s version of the bill would result in a $2.1 to $2.3 trillion deficit.
