Commonly reported safety concerns during these festivities include foodborne illnesses,fireworks-related injuries, and heat exhaustion.

To promote public safety, health agencies provide several recommendations. For food safety during barbecues, it’s crucial to maintain proper food temperatures to prevent bacterial growth and use meat thermometers to ensure safe cooking of meats. For fireworks, injuries have dramatically increased, with nearly 14,700 emergency room visits attributed to fireworks-related incidents last year alone. People are advised not to let children handle fireworks and to keep water or a hose handy.

Additionally, with extreme heat warnings affecting millions of Americans, staying hydrated and avoiding strenuous outdoor activities during peak temperatures is emphasized. Health officials warn that older adults and those with certain health conditions are particularly at risk for heat-related illnesses.

while Independence Day is a time for enjoyment and festivity, it is crucial to take necessary precautions to ensure a safe and healthy experience.

Independence Day is one of the most dangerous holidays: How to stay safe

Foodborne illness, fireworks injuries, and heat exhaustion are just some public health safety concerns likely to arise during Independence Day celebrations across the country this weekend.

According to the Pew Research Center, roughly 91,000 people visit emergency rooms on July 4 and 5 each year, making Independence Day one of the most dangerous holidays of the year.

Recommended Stories

July 4th gas prices to hit lowest level in four years as 72.2 million expected to travel

Trump’s ‘approval’ of using National Guard as immigration judges sparks blowback

Ukraine’s nightmare comes true with Pentagon move to halt some aid thanks to stockpiles

Here is some of the best advice from government public health agencies on how to protect yourself from simple mistakes this holiday:

Food safety for barbecues

Last year, a photo of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) putting cheese on a raw hamburger during a staged Father’s Day grilling scene went viral. Schumer had to take down the post to avoid ridicule.

Rep.
