without its original gay agenda.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Suddenly, you remove this big, key piece, which is all about identity, and&nbsp;<em>Elio<\/em>&nbsp;just becomes about totally nothing,&rdquo; the artist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/elio-pixar-america-ferrera-director-queer-2-1236301860\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told<\/a> The Hollywood Reporter. &ldquo;The&nbsp;<em>Elio&nbsp;<\/em>that is in theaters right now is far worse than Adrian&rsquo;s best version of the original.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-772329823\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Adrian Molina, who is openly gay, was the film&rsquo;s first director, according to the outlet. After Disney showed the film&rsquo;s first cut &mdash; without the original queer characterization &mdash; several creatives reportedly left the project. Molina left <em>Elio <\/em>to co-direct <em>Coco 2.<\/em> America Ferrera, known for playing Gloria in <em>Barbie<\/em>, left her role as Elio&rsquo;s mom after Molina&rsquo;s exit.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It was pretty clear through the production of the first version of the film that [studio leaders] were constantly sanding down these moments in the film that alluded to Elio&rsquo;s sexuality of being queer,&rdquo; the former Pixar artist who worked on the film <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/elio-pixar-america-ferrera-director-queer-2-1236301860\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told<\/a> The Hollywood Reporter.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, without propaganda, Pixar is nothing.<\/p>\n<p>Every story has a message born out of the main character&rsquo;s arc as he comes into conflict with other characters and the events of the plot. A story without a message or theme is not a story at all. If <em>Elio<\/em>&rsquo;s original queer themes were its central message, it makes sense that the story is empty now that they&rsquo;ve been scrubbed.<\/p>\n<p>Audience <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/buzz-lightyear-movie-rotten-tomatoes-compared-pixar-average\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reviews<\/a> for Pixar&rsquo;s <em>Lightyear<\/em> made it clear that families do not want to see queer themes in children&rsquo;s movies, leaving the studio caught between viewers and Disney&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/not-at-all-secret-gay-agenda-disney-employees-break-down-adding-queerness-to-shows-and-degenderizing-theme-parks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">gay agenda.<\/a> As The Federalist&rsquo;s Shawn Fleetwood <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/07\/01\/pixars-elio-debacle-shows-audiences-dont-want-studios-pushing-sexual-agendas-on-kids\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">noted<\/a>, the removal of <em>Elio<\/em>&lsquo;s &ldquo;queer-coded&rdquo; elements may mean that Pixar is listening to its audience. But the movie still fell flat after the creative team failed to rework the movie around a new theme.<\/p>\n<p>Is Disney capable of writing meaningful movies without the message of feminism or LGBT self-discovery? Recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rottentomatoes.com\/m\/strange_world\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">movies<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/disney-pulls-transgender-storyline-win-or-lose-1236088172\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">shows<\/a> indicate the company is struggling to do so.<\/p>\n<p>Pixar&rsquo;s movies have lost their soul. To find it again, the studio needs to reject leftist gay propaganda and return to telling stories that promote virtue and heroism.
