The article highlights that three GOP senators-Rand Paul from Kentucky, Susan Collins from Maine, and thom Tillis from North Carolina-opposed the bill due to concerns over its impact on the national debt and cuts to Medicaid.

Rand Paul, known for his fiscal conservatism, objected to raising the debt ceiling, seeking “fiscal sanity” in government spending. Collins, who has openly expressed her dislike for Trump, criticized the extent of Medicaid cuts but supported some aspects of the bill. Tillis also announced his retirement amid unrest regarding the bill and the expectation of facing a more Trump-aligned primary opponent.

The article notes that the Republicans could only afford to lose three votes for the bill to pass, with Vice president J.D.
