While Bernal&#8217;s legal counsel had initially confirmed his attendance, they later informed the Committee of his intent to not appear, following the White House&#8217;s waiver of executive priviledge for former staffers.<\/p>\n<p>Comer condemned Bernal&#8217;s refusal as obstructionist, asserting that the American public deserves transparency and accountability regarding the situation. He indicated that he woudl issue a subpoena to compel bernal to testify. This situation follows recent testimony from another former Biden aide, neera Tanden, who indicated her involvement wiht the use of autopen signatures without full knowledge of the approval process within Biden&#8217;s inner circle. As described by a committee <a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/release\/chairman-comer-statement-on-anthony-bernals-refusal-to-testify-in-biden-cognitive-decline-investigation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">press release<\/a>, this interview was expected to be a part of the committee&rsquo;s investigation into &ldquo;the cover-up of President Joe Biden&rsquo;s mental decline and potentially unauthorized use of autopen for sweeping pardons and other executive actions.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-677220612\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>According to the Oversight Committee, &ldquo;Mr. Bernal&rsquo;s legal team had previously confirmed he would appear for a transcribed interview on June 26, 2025.&rdquo; After being told that the Trump administration <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/house-republicans-inch-closer-answers-former-biden-advisors-lose-executive-privilege-shield\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">waived<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/constitution.congress.gov\/browse\/essay\/artII-S3-4-1\/ALDE_00013377\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">executive privilege<\/a> for former Biden White House staffers (including Bernal) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/top-biden-officials-summoned-testify-about-alleged-cover-up-former-presidents-mental-fitness\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">who are set to testify<\/a> before lawmakers, however, Bernal&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/daniel-pennys-legal-team-considers-striking-back-against-da-alvin-bragg-there-was-collusion\/\" title=\"Daniel Penny&#039;s ... Considers Striking Back Against DA Alvin Bragg: &#039;There Was Collusion&#039;\">legal team &#038;ldquo<\/a>;informed the Committee that he would no longer appear for the interview.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Now that the White House has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-votes-to-hold-steve-bannon-in-contempt-setting-up-justice-department-to-bring-criminal-charges\/\" title=\"House Votes To Hold Steve Bannon In Contempt, Setting Up Justice Department To Bring Criminal Charges\">waived executive privilege<\/a>, it&rsquo;s abundantly clear that Anthony Bernal &mdash; Jill Biden&rsquo;s so-called &lsquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >work husband&#038;rsquo<\/a>; &mdash; never intended to be transparent about Joe Biden&rsquo;s cognitive decline and the ensuing cover-up,&rdquo; Comer said in a statement. &ldquo;With no privilege left to hide behind, Mr. Bernal is now running scared, desperate to bury the truth. The American people deserve answers and accountability, and the Oversight Committee will not tolerate this obstruction. I will promptly issue a subpoena to compel Anthony Bernal&rsquo;s testimony before the Committee.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Comer previously <a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/release\/comer-subpoenas-white-house-aides-running-interference-for-president-biden-amid-cognitive-decline\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">subpoenaed<\/a> Bernal and two other Biden administration officials last year as part of the committee&rsquo;s investigation into the cover-up of the then-president&rsquo;s cognitive decline. These efforts were &ldquo;obstructed&rdquo; by the Biden White House, according to the committee.<\/p>\n<p>The revelation of Bernal&rsquo;s unwillingness to testify without the protection of executive privilege comes a day after former Biden aide Neera Tanden testified before the Oversight Committee on the scandal. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/top-biden-aide-admits-congress-she-directed-autopen-signatures-without-knowing-who-gave-final-approval.amp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fox News<\/a>, Tanden disclosed that she was permitted to &ldquo;direct autopen signatures but was unaware of who in the president&rsquo;s inner circle was giving her final clearance.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Tanden testified that to get approval for the use of autopen signatures she would send decision memos to members of Biden&rsquo;s inner circle.
