Teh charges stem from an altercation where McIver <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >allegedly obstructed federal officers<\/a> during an attempted arrest of newark mayor Ras Baraka, whom she is accused of assaulting. McIver faces a three-count indictment and could face up to 17 years in prison if convicted. <\/p>\n<p>during her arraignment, which took place amid protests supporting her, Baraka criticized the charges as intimidation, asserting that they threaten democracy. Despite the legal challenges, McIver maintains her innocence and intends to fight the charges in court. The trial is set for November 10. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ) and Robert Menendez (D-NJ), who were present with McIver during their visit to the ICE facility, face no charges. The three lawmakers were conducting congressional oversight of the Delaney Hall detention center on May 9 when the clash ensued.<\/p>\n<p>Acting U.S. Attorney for New Jersey Alina Habba, who previously represented President Donald Trump in court during his 2024 campaign, is leading the charges against McIver.<\/p>\n<p>While McIver&rsquo;s attorney claims that the prosecution is politically motivated, Habba argues that she is simply enforcing the law against someone who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/freedom-goes-global-finland-anti-lockdown-convoy-hits-helsinki\/\" title=\"Freedom Goes GLOBAL: Finland Anti-Lockdown Convoy Hits Helsinki\">assaulted law enforcement officers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Habba now faces an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ethics-complaint-filed-against-jen-psaki\/\" title=\"... filed against Jen Psaki\">ethics complaint filed<\/a> by the Campaign for Accountability, a liberal watchdog group.
