In the primary election for New York City’s 2nd City Council District, Weiner ranked poorly, finishing fourth with only 10.3% of the vote, while Harvey epstein, a candidate with the same last name as infamous sex offenders Jeffrey Epstein and Harvey Weinstein, led with 39%. The article highlights the ironic twist of Weiner, a known sex offender, losing to a candidate whose name evokes notoriety, suggesting that the voters were less likely to forgive Weiner’s past compared to Epstein’s lack of a criminal record. Amidst this, progressive candidate Zohran Mamdani’s unexpected rise also likely influenced turnout against Weiner. The text reflects on the societal perceptions of Weiner’s previous actions, the public’s current attitudes, and the notion of poetic justice in his political defeat.

April, T.S. Mr. Weiner resigned from Congress in 2011 following a sexting scandal. A second sexting scandal cost him a run for mayor in 2013. Four years later, he was convicted of a felony and served 18 months in prison for sharing sexually explicit photos and texts with a 15-year-old girl. …

During his campaign, he has owned those dark episodes without, as he put it, “wallowing” in them — “contrition, but not scraping.” He hopes his practical, street-level ideas to fix what ails the city — hire more police officers, find proper care for the mentally ill and homeless living in parks — attract voters ready to set aside his past.

I probably wouldn’t have minded some “wallowing,” actually. I think if you’re the kind of guy who has to resign from Congress because you posted sexually explicit photos meant for direct messages on your main Twitter feed then managed to not only lose the mayoralty but your freedom for second and third sexting scandals, “wallowing” is pretty critical. I wouldn’t mind him “wallowing.”

And while there are perhaps other reasons for a man who was on an upward trajectory to the mayoralty just a decade ago lost so badly in a trivial race, there’s a certain poetic justice in the fact that a sex offender was beaten by a man with no criminal record but who bears the names of two of the most noxious sex offenders this country has ever known.

Part of it probably had to do with the fact that it was a huge night for upstart mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, a little-known progressive lawmaker who definitely doesn’t like “practical, street-level ideas to fix what ails the city.”

Ergo, the kind of moderate-ish voter (for New York City, anyway) who heard Weiner’s name and was willing to overlook his past wasn’t really coming out to the polls if Mamdani’s unexpected election-night knockout was any indication. (And one half wonders if Weiner’s campaign wasn’t a feint on the part of Andrew Cuomo’s team to make their candidate only the second-most infamous perv — allegedly, cough cough — running on Tuesday.)

And then there was the matter of not only Weiner’s acts, but what they led to. Remember, the reason for FBI Director James Comey reopening the Hillary Clinton server investigation with just days to go in the 2016 presidential race had little to do with new information from investigating Clinton.

Rather, they had stumbled upon s as an ancillary function of an investigation into Weiner’s sexting habits; Abedin, who was Hillary’s top aide during that election, had the s on the computer the two d.

So, if you don’t remember Weiner, it’s unlikely you’re going to vote for him. If you do, it’s more unlikely. Why he subjected himself to this is beyond me, but there are so many things about the skeeveball that shall remain beyond my comprehension on this side of the empyrean.

Whatever the case, it’s a reminder that there are still more days in the cruelest month for New York’s most famous electoral sex offender to make a fool of himself. I don’t know if he can one-up losing to a guy named Harvey Epstein, but he can certainly try. The former congressman and New York City mayoral hopeful faced a dismal end to his political aspirations not by vying for Congress or Gracie Mansion but by attempting to secure a City Council seat-much to the mockery of the media. Earlier in June, he witnessed his ex-wife Huma Abedin, a key aide to Hillary Clinton, marry George Soros’s son. Then on Tuesday, Weiner-who shares a name with only one sex offender (himself)-lost to someone named after two notorious sex offenders. With 85% of votes counted in the primary for New York City’s 2nd City Council District, Weiner was in fourth place with just 10.3% of the vote; only Allie Ryan had fewer votes at 7.8%. The likely winner? Harvey Epstein-not a joke despite being referenced in an SNL sketch featuring John Mulaney: as of 1:30 AM, Epstein had garnered 39% of the vote while other candidates Sarah Batchu and Andrea Gordillo trailed closely behind at around 21%.

The New York Times reported that Weiner struggled to gain support in his district-which primarily includes Manhattan’s Lower East Side and East Village-where he encountered mixed reactions from voters; one older woman told him she voted for him while another younger woman took a selfie with him and called him “pedophile.” After resigning from Congress due to a sexting scandal in 2011 and facing further scandals that derailed his mayoral bid in 2013-and ultimately serving time for sending explicit messages to a minor-Weiner has tried to address these past issues without dwelling on them too much.

While he aims to present practical solutions like increasing police presence and addressing mental health care needs as reasons voters should overlook his history, some believe more acknowledgment of his past would be beneficial given its severity. His significant loss against someone who shares names with infamous sex offenders adds an ironic twist; it reflects poetic justice that someone with such troubling history was defeated by an individual without any criminal record but associated with notorious figures.

Additionally, upstart candidate Zohran Mamdani’s success suggests moderate voters willing to forgive Weiner may not have turned out at all if they were drawn instead toward Mamdani’s progressive platform-a sign that perhaps those familiar with Weiner’s past were less inclined towards supporting him this time around.

Ultimately reminding us there are still opportunities ahead for New York’s most infamous electoral figure-and whether he can top losing against someone named Harvey Epstein remains uncertain-but let’s hope it doesn’t involve children again

[33651
48371,57875,23717,57876,57877
post-2451758","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-the-western-journal","tag-anthony-weiner","tag-comeback-race","tag-humiliation","tag-infamous-pedophile","tag-name-confusion
["GET
