The media glorified him. His face appeared on posters, accompanied by the word &ldquo;HOPE.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;They were releasing doves at all of his rallies and stuff like that,&rdquo; Mitchell said of Obama&rsquo;s 70 percent approval rating at the beginning of his first term. &ldquo;Yeah, he came in with a really <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-will-deliver-first-speech-to-congress-in-nearly-empty-house-chamber\/\" title=\"Biden Will Deliver First Speech To Congress In Nearly-Empty House Chamber\">high approval rating<\/a>. To this day, of course, the 47th president <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trump-names-3-mainstream-media-sleazebags-working-especially-hard-push-falsehood-regarding-iran-strike\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">continues to face hostility<\/a> from those same sources.<\/p>\n<p>Despite that hostility &mdash; or perhaps partly because of it &mdash; Trump has seen his popularity increase. And that flies in the face of a major historical trend.<\/p>\n<p>From <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/second-george-washington-sylvester-stallone-gives-phenomenal-introduction-trump-mar-lago-event\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">George Washington<\/a> through Obama, presidential second terms often prove less successful than first terms.<\/p>\n<p>To examine that phenomenon would require a full-length article or even a book. But pick a two-term president from any era &mdash; Washington, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/john-adams-thomas-jefferson-reconcile-trump-musk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Thomas Jefferson<\/a>, Woodrow Wilson, Richard Nixon, etc. &mdash; consider the difficulties they faced in their second terms, then contrast those difficulties with their relatively successful first terms. The rule does not hold in every instance, but it holds often enough that it constitutes a trend.<\/p>\n<p>While it remains early, Trump appears poised to buck that trend by enjoying a more successful second term.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, one senses that the 47th president relishes one related achievement: vanquishing Obama.<\/p>\n<p>Recall, for instance, one of the viral moments of the last decade, when Obama, appearing during the &ldquo;Mean Tweets&rdquo; segment on ABC&rsquo;s &ldquo;Jimmy Kimmel Live,&rdquo; read a from Trump, who characterized Obama as &ldquo;perhaps the worst president in the history of the United States!&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;At least I will go down as a president,&rdquo; Obama replied, dropping his phone in the style of a &ldquo;mic drop.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Readers may relive that moment in the following 20-second clip, posted to X.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">&ldquo;Well, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realDonaldTrump?\">@realDonaldTrump<\/a>, at least I will go down as a president.&rdquo; Pres.
