Speaker Mike johnson (R-LA) has advised GOP lawmakers to remain flexible, indicating that the House may need to extend its session past the weekend, contingent on when the Senate completes its version of the bill.<\/p>\n<p>The White House aims for the Senate to finalize the legislation by July 4 and for Trump to receive a compromise version before the August recess. Johnson stated that the House is prepared to adjust its schedule if the Senate adheres to the expected timeline. However, Johnson told reporters Tuesday that the House could abbreviate its July 4 break to wrap up the entire process.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;If the Senate does its work on the timeline that we expect, we will do our work as well, and I think everybody&rsquo;s ready for that,&rdquo; Johnson said.<\/p>\n<p>There are major obstacles to meeting the July 4 deadline. Republicans are still getting rulings from the Senate parliamentarian that force committees to abandon or rewrite provisions that do not comply with the filibuster-skirting rules of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/schumer-dems-will-pass-covid-relief-bill-with-or-without-gop\/\" title=\"Schumer: Dems will pass COVID relief ... with or without GOP\">budget reconciliation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, Republicans are still trying to find a compromise that pleases fiscal hawks and a bloc of centrists concerned about the bill&rsquo;s Medicaid reforms.<\/p>\n<p>Johnson told reporters he had been involved in those negotiations, citing &ldquo;ad nauseam&rdquo; conversations with individual senators who, according to him, were still going through the &ldquo;five stages of grief&rdquo; on their preferred legislative changes. Trump has also begun to get involved, hosting a group of fiscal hawks at the White House on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who has been intimately involved in crafting the tax portion details of the bill, will attend the Senate GOP lunch on Tuesday, according to a source familiar with the matter.<\/p>\n<p>The Senate changes to the bill have <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BasedMikeLee\/status\/1937220763922174011\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">fanned<\/a> conservative upset in the House, in particular provisions that would &ldquo;water down&rdquo; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/senate-byrd-bath-further-complicates-conservative-support-for-tax-bill\/\" title=\"... \u2018Byrd bath\u2019 further complicates conservative support for tax ...\">food stamp reforms<\/a> and a rollback of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/here-are-all-the-green-new-deal-handouts-democrats-wedged-into-their-3-5-trillion-budget\/\" title=\"Here Are All The Green New Deal Handouts Democrats Wedged Into Their .5 Trillion Budget\">green energy tax credits<\/a> that passed the House last month.<\/p>\n<p>The SALT Caucus <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/3447790\/salt-cap-gop-limbo-congress-one-big-beautiful-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">rejected<\/a> a compromise to the state and local tax deduction proposed by Sen.
