Since the other troops were no more sober than Smith, they headed home, leaving Stanley in the Rideau. The next morning &mdash; his head cleared &mdash; Smith realized he had done something terrible during the previous night,&rdquo; the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/news\/stanley-cup-has-strange-and-colorful-past\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NHL&rsquo;s website<\/a> said.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;He dressed quickly, dashed back to the Canal and there he found the Cup, comfortably nestled in the bone dry bed,&rdquo; the site said.<\/p>\n<p>The cup has had adventures with several of its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/game-half-inches-decide-critical-call-stanley-cup-finals-right-one\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recent winners<\/a>, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/nationalpost.com\/sports\/hockey\/nhl\/florida-panthers-stanley-cup-damage-history\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In 2022, when the Colorado Avalanche celebrated their championship, &nbsp;Nicholas Aube-Kubel managed to drop the cup onto the ice leaving a dent on the bottom.<\/p>\n<p>Damage had occurred the year before as well when the Tampa Bay Lightning were partying with their prize.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, the cup joined Panthers players when they celebrated at Fort Lauderdale Beach, and made a trip into the ocean.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">It took less than 12 hours for the Panthers to dent the Stanley Cup &#128517;<\/p>\n<p>&#128248; <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Chris_Jast?\">@Chris_Jast<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/4nHk5rwyRo\">pic.twitter.com\/4nHk5rwyRo<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; The Athletic (@TheAthletic) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheAthletic\/status\/1935331142497878039?\">June 18, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><br \/>  &ldquo;I think somebody said that&rsquo;s not technically allowed, but I said it was too late,&rdquo; Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk said. &ldquo;It already happened.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Howie Borrow, one keeper of the cup, said adventures for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/nbc-forced-apologize-stanley-cup-celebration-gets-vulgar-air\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trophy<\/a> are nothing new, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/stanley-cup-damaged-during-florida-panthers-celebration-11757887\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">People<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;As far as food, you name it, it&rsquo;s been in there,&rdquo; Borrow said, &ldquo;Cereal, ice cream, pierogis, chicken wings, spaghetti, goulash, anything weird.
