Acting OPM Director Chuck Ezell criticized the previous administration for poor management of telework policies, stating that President Trump&#8217;s administration has reinstated in-person work too hold employees accountable. Senator Joni Ernst, who prompted the investigation, expressed frustration over federal employees not returning to work, emphasizing that many government buildings were underutilized. Despite pressure from republicans and local officials, the Biden administration reportedly struggled to bring employees back to the office. Joni Ernst (R-IA) in August 2023. Ernst wrote that &ldquo;frustrated Americans are being put on hold while too many federal employees are phoning it in&rdquo; and at the time called for federal employees to return to the office as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<p>Multiple federal agencies were reported to be using 25% or less of the capacity at their headquarters in 2023. Federal employees were sent home en masse during the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020, and many had yet to return three years later. The OPM report found that remote work increased by 528% during the Biden administration, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2025\/06\/20\/exclusive-federal-govts-telework-obsession-worse-thought\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"according\">according<\/a> to the <em>Daily Caller.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>It appears that the Biden administration made little progress in getting employees back into the office <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2575625\/biden-faces-new-pressure-to-bring-federal-workers-back-to-the-office\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"despite pressure\">despite pressure<\/a> from congressional Republicans and local elected officials, such as District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser.<\/p>\n<p>Ernst said in a Friday statement that the Biden administration slow-walked releasing data, contrasting it with a Trump administration &ldquo;commitment to transparency.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-transform:uppercase\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/premium\/3434794\/the-new-conservatives-review-oren-cass\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"The New Right rides again: Review of &lsquo;The New Conservatives&rsquo; by Oren Cass\">The New Right rides again: Review of &lsquo;The New Conservatives&rsquo; by Oren Cass<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I exposed widespread telework and locality pay abuses under the Biden administration that led to government buildings being ghost towns,&rdquo; Ernst said. &ldquo;It should come as no surprise that those setting telework policy under Joe Biden were some of the worst abusers of it.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The report also comes as Trump seeks to turn up the pressure on Joe Biden.
