Although the company managed to halt the attack within hours adn confirmed that its systems were not impacted by ransomware, hackers accessed sensitive files containing claims information, health details, and social Security numbers of customers and employees. It remains uncertain how much data was compromised, as the hackers reportedly used &#8220;social engineering&#8221; techniques to infiltrate the network. aflac has acknowledged being part of a broader cybercrime campaign targeting U.S. insurance providers, particularly a group known as Scattered Spider. The company said hackers used &ldquo;social engineering&rdquo; to access the network. This maneuver can include tricking someone into revealing security information in order to gain access to a network.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Aflac is the largest victim so far in the digital assault on U.S. insurance companies.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The attack comes after Google&rsquo;s Mandiant cybersecurity unit <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JohnHultquist\/status\/1934676290629423329\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">warned<\/a> earlier this month that the cybercriminal group known as Scattered Spider has been targeting U.S. insurance providers.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This attack, like many insurance companies are currently experiencing, was caused by a sophisticated cybercrime group,&rdquo; Aflac said, without naming Scattered Spider. &ldquo;This was part of a cybercrime campaign against the insurance industry.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/finance-and-economy\/3437592\/ai-provision-big-beautiful-bill-splits-republicans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">AI PROVISION IN &lsquo;BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL&rsquo; SPLITS REPUBLICANS<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Aflac is one of the largest providers of supplemental health insurance in the country. It is used for medical expenses not covered by a <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >primary health insurance provider<\/a>.
