When the suspect threatened them with a gun, John lunged at him and was shot nine times, while Yvette sustained eight gunshot wounds while trying to secure the door. John Hoffman and his wife Yvette provided new details of the moments they were shot last weekend by a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/21-year-old-man-charged-with-murder-of-texas-pastor\/\" title=\"21-year-old man charged with murder of Texas pastor\">man charged<\/a> with attempting to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/crime\/3442053\/two-minnesota-lawmakers-shot-by-suspect-impersonating-police\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">murder them and assassinating<\/a> state Rep. Nearly 1,400 Migrants Enter New &#039;Temporary&#039; Camp in Calais\">attack officers<\/a> with explosives at LA riots<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p>The Hoffmans said they could not release much information until now because they were <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >receiving medical care<\/a>, but they noted they wanted to offer &ldquo;more clarity of what happened,&rdquo; according to the statement obtained by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kare11.com\/article\/news\/local\/hoffman-hortman-statement-minnesota-shooting\/89-5fb5baf5-8293-4397-b57d-69a265571bd4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NBC affiliate KARE of Minneapolis<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The couple said that around 2:00 a.m., their family woke up to someone who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/3443038\/us-attorney-federal-charges-vance-luther-boelter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">identified himself as a police officer<\/a> pounding on the door. Then, when the man pointed a gun at them, John Hoffman lunged at the gunman and was shot nine times. Yvette Hoffman was able to close the door, but she was shot eight times while doing so. Their daughter, Hope, secured the lock and called 911.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Her brave actions and quick thinking triggered the notice to public safety officials that a politically-motivated act was potentially underway,&rdquo; the statement said.<\/p>\n<p>The Hoffmans said they were &ldquo;heartbroken to know that our friends Melissa and Mark Hortman were assassinated,&rdquo; noting that their daughters went to school together.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/senate\/3442934\/amy-klobuchar-minnesota-shootings-tone-down-hateful-rhetoric\/\"><strong>KLOBUCHAR URGES COLLEAGUES TO TONE DOWN &lsquo;HATEFUL RHETORIC&rsquo; AFTER LAWMAKER SHOOTINGS<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Choosing to work in the public sector, even in as limited a way as John&rsquo;s career as a senator, has always meant sacrificing a level of privacy.
