The game’s tensions escalated when Sun guard Jacy Sheldon poked Clark in the eye, followed by multiple players throwing Clark to the ground. Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White criticized the officiating for failing to control the game’s physicality, suggesting that the referees missed clear signs of brewing conflict. Despite the challenges, Clark maintained her composure and contributed substantially to the game, finishing with 20 points and helping the Fever secure an 88-71 victory. The incident has sparked discussions on how the league’s officiating can better handle such intense physicality in women’s basketball.

As WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark continues to be a target, her coach says the league’s officiating needs to respond.

A Tuesday night game between Clark’s Indiana Fever and the Connecticut Sun devolved into a game of pushing and shoving after Sun guard Jacy Sheldon poked Clark in the eye, which was followed up by two Sun players slamming Clark to the floor.
