U.S. District Judge Julia Kobick granted a preliminary injunction following a lawsuit from individuals arguing that the policy would force them to reveal their gender identity whenever thay used their passports. The judge certified the case as a class action,emphasizing that the plaintiffs demonstrated a likelihood of experiencing irreparable harm. in January that instructed officials to change government-issued documents, such as passports, to &ldquo;accurately reflect the holder&rsquo;s sex.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Kobick said the lawsuit will apply to all of those who &ldquo;currently want, or in the future will want, a U.S. passport issued with an &lsquo;M&rsquo; or &lsquo;F&rsquo; sex designation that is different from the sex assigned to that individual under the Passport Policy.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>She added that it will also apply to &ldquo;all people who currently want, or in the future will want, a U.S. passport and wish to use an &lsquo;X&rsquo; sex designation.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Kobick gave the plaintiffs &ldquo;class certification&rdquo; in the lawsuit, meaning the case can proceed as a class action.
