These protests, organized by a group called the 50501 Movement, aim to oppose what they describe as “corrupt, authoritarian politics” in the U.S. While the protests are ostensibly about the parade,they also follow several days of rallies against federal immigration raids,especially in Los Angeles,where tensions have been high.

The movement has attracted attention as its leaders encourage participants to reject authoritarianism and promote community action instead of celebrating the military parade, coinciding with important national dates such as Trump’s birthday and Flag Day. The organizers claim that the flag belongs to the people and not to any single leader, promoting their ideology of community empowerment.

In the backdrop of this, officials like Texas Governor Greg Abbott have taken cautionary steps, deploying national Guard troops amid concerns about the potential for violence, reflecting fears rooted in recent civil unrest linked to protests. Despite the movement being reported as peaceful by mainstream media,the text argues that local authorities should be vigilant,given the unpredictability sometimes associated with large gatherings. The message emphasizes a desire for lawful and peaceful demonstrations while criticizing any administration tactics deemed heavy-handed.

    Read more…

If you’ve been watching the “peaceful” “grassroots” protests out of Los Angeles — which are neither peaceful nor grassroots, because of course they aren’t — and have been wondering whether or not they might metastasize out of the city, surprise: That’s the plan!

At least that’s what you might say about the so-called “No Kings” demonstrations taking place across America this weekend. The rallies are nominally supposed to be about the military parade in Washington, D.C., to mark the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary, although one surmises that they’re as much about that as they are about protesting Sacramento’s basketball team.

Indeed, as USA Today noted, the protests “will follow several days of nationwide protests against federal immigration raids including in Los Angeles, where Trump’s deployment of the National Guard further agitated his opponents.

“Texas Gov. Call me crazy, but I kind of think a prerequisite for something being declared a “strongman” government is a central figure strong enough to both completely quell the riots and jail everyone involved, but Trump instead opted to send the National Guard and Marines in for the purposes of protecting federal agents and property while limited raids were carried out against people who were in our country illegally.

To the extent that this is more strong-armed than Joe Biden, it’s only because the Biden administration gave its favorite peeps free rein to do whatever the heck they wanted in the streets. (Don’t take the COVID jab or mask up, however, and it was an awfully different story.)

Thus, protests are planned for almost 2,000 locations, according to The Associated Press.

“The flag doesn’t belong to President Trump. It belongs to us,” the group says on its website. “On June 14th, we’re showing up everywhere he isn’t — to say no thrones, no crowns, no kings.”

To this end, they’ll be protesting in cities not named the District of Columbia on Saturday, with “a flagship march and rally in Philadelphia to draw a clear contrast between its people-powered movement and what organizers described on their website as the ‘costly, wasteful, and un-American birthday parade’ in Washington.”

Look, if they can pull this off and there’s no violence associated with it, far be it from me to shut down peaceful protests; they’ll just be “costly, wasteful, and un-American” pickets.

However, doing this as Los Angeles and other cities reel from the violence caused by professional “protesters,” it’s clear that governors and local officials should do all they can to ensure it stays that way. While “No Kings” has been uncritically reported by the mainstream media as harmless, they’re not exactly making sure to emphasize this apart from a vague statement in small print at the bottom of their website saying that organizers “expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events.” Which sounds a lot like what organizers of many of the protests in Los Angeles said, too.

Thus, better safe than sorry: It’s on local officials to follow Gov. Abbott’s lead and ensure it stays that way.

       * Name

       *

      * Message

* All fields are required.

Success!

       function firefly_sc() { if( typeof window.captchaPublicKey==typeof undefined ){ console.error('window.captchaPublicKey is not defined'); } grecaptcha.execute( window.captchaPublicKey, { action: 'submit_correction' } ).then( function( token ) { var opts={ action: 'firefly_sc_submit', name: document.querySelector( '.entry-submit-correction [name="name"]' ).value, : document.querySelector( '.entry-submit-correction [name=""]' ).value, message: document.querySelector( '.entry-submit-correction [name="message"]' ).value, post_id: firefly_post_id, cap_token: token } var inputs=[ 'name', '', 'message' ]; for( var i=0; i <inputs.length; i++ ) if( ! This weekend, demonstrations labeled as “No Kings” are set to occur across the United States. While these rallies are officially aimed at protesting a military parade in Washington, D.C., celebrating the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary, it seems they also serve as a protest against Sacramento’s basketball team. As noted by USA Today, these protests follow several days of nationwide demonstrations against federal immigration raids, including those in Los Angeles where Trump’s deployment of the National Guard has further fueled opposition.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott is echoing Trump’s actions by deploying over 5,000 Texas National Guard troops and more than 2,000 state police to prepare for the upcoming “No Kings” protests. Organized by a group called the 50501 Movement, these protests aim to challenge what they describe as corrupt and authoritarian politics in America.

The movement claims that instead of allowing Trump’s birthday parade to dominate attention on June 14th-also Flag Day-they want to shift focus towards community actions across the country that reject strongman politics and corruption. They argue that while some may label Trump’s administration as authoritarian due to its response to riots-including sending in National Guard troops-the reality is more complex.

Protests are planned for nearly 2,000 locations nationwide with organizers stating that “the flag doesn’t belong to President Trump; it belongs to us.” They plan significant events outside Washington D.C., particularly highlighting a major march in Philadelphia intended to contrast their grassroots efforts with what they call an extravagant and un-American celebration.

While peaceful protests should be respected if conducted without violence-even if deemed costly or wasteful-it’s crucial for local officials to ensure safety during these events given recent unrest linked with professional protesters. Although mainstream media has reported on “No Kings” without much scrutiny regarding potential risks involved, there is little emphasis on their vague calls for de-escalation among participants who may disagree with their views-a sentiment echoed by many past protest organizers too.

Therefore, it’s wise for local authorities to take proactive measures similar to Governor Abbott’s approach and maintain order during this time

[33651
56748,3691,4107
post-2447268","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-the-western-journal","tag-la-riots","tag-left","tag-national
["GET
