\t\t\t\t}); \t\t\t} \t\t<\/script> <\/p>\n<p>The bill came in response to a Louisiana case in which an abortionist in New York state sent abortion pills to a pregnant Louisiana minor, Attorney General Liz Murrill said.<\/p>\n<p>That doctor was covered by a shield law in New York protecting abortionists from facing prosecutions in states which have regulated abortions for third-party providers.<\/p>\n<p>Murrill called the law &ldquo;another tool in the toolbox&rdquo; to block out-of-state doctors who are &ldquo;intent on violating our laws.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;These are not doctors providing health care. They are drug dealers,&rdquo; Murrill said, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wwltv.com\/article\/news\/politics\/louisiana-moves-to-ban-out-of-state-abortion-pill-access\/289-e3b276e6-5434-4ee1-a11b-0653cc90748d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WWL-TV<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The state House version of the bill, sponsored by state Rep. Lauren Ventrella, a Republican, is titled the &ldquo;Justice for Victims of Abortion Drug Dealers Act,&rdquo; according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lailluminator.com\/briefs\/louisiana-legislature-targets-out-of-state-doctors-who-provide-abortion-pills\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Louisiana Illuminator<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;If doctors are going to come to our state and harm our people and our unborn children &mdash; who we do recognize as life &mdash; then they need to think twice about coming into our state,&rdquo; Ventrella said, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nola.com\/news\/healthcare_hospitals\/justice-for-victims-of-abortion-drug-dealers-act-passes-louisiana-legislature45dfgfj\/article_6f4fdb16-bf8f-4459-9f79-2450970d9835.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NOLA.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div data-breakout=\"1\">\n<div>\n<p>State Rep. Julie Emerson, another Republican, said Louisiana needs a vehicle to stop out-of-state providers from sending abortion pills into the state.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;When doctors and pharmacies realize that this is a thing in Louisiana and that they could be civilly liable, then they&rsquo;ll stop sending them here,&rdquo; she said.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Idaho, Oklahoma, and Texas have similar laws, according to the Associated Press.<\/p>\n<p>State Sen.
