The 2-1 ruling did not include any explanation, but its impact was evident.<\/p>\n<p>Unless the Supreme Court takes up the case, Menendez, who is scheduled to report to prison on Tuesday, is going to be serving his 11-year sentence even as he fights to get the conviction overturned.<\/p>\n<p>The case of the former New Jersey senator, who resigned from the Senate after his conviction, was not only a disgrace to the government and the Garden State, it became a national joke, with its FBI raid <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/democratic-sen-bob-menendez-makes-decision-re-election-amid-gold-bar-scandal-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">turning up gold bars<\/a>, as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-democratic-sen-menendez-says-cash-found-home-personal-savings-not-bribe-proceeds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">copious amounts of cash<\/a> hidden in the Menendez home.<\/p>\n<p>In 2023, then-Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-matt-gaetz-hilariously-torches-democrat-senator-accused-bribery-house-floor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">argued on the House floor<\/a> that Menendez demanding bribes in gold bars was a sign of how inflation had gotten under then-President Joe Biden.<\/p>\n<p>Even the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/jon-stewart-anti-trump-meltdown-getting-caught-overvaluing-house-829\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">infamously liberal<\/a> comedian Jon Stewart <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=5udtSQ-LtM0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mocked Menendez<\/a> on Comedy Central&rsquo;s &ldquo;The Daily Show.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>But Menendez continues to claim innocence and is fighting for his political reputation.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SenatorMenendez\/status\/1932812767276257528\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lengthy thread<\/a> posted to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-new-acting-attorney-general-jeff-rosen-recently-wrote-an-essay-on-foreign-influence-in-us-elections-this-tells-us-a-little-about-his-knowledge-of-whats-going-on-today\/\" title=\"The New Acting Attorney General Jeff Rosen Recently Wrote an Essay on Foreign Influence in US Elections \u2013 This Tells Us A Little About His Knowledge of What\u2019s Going On Today\">social media platform<\/a> X on Wednesday, he argued that his case was a result of &ldquo;weaponization&rdquo; in the legal system, overseen by a prosecutor using it to advance his own political career.<\/p>\n<p>He wrote that Damian Williams, the now former U.S. attorney who handled his case for the Justice Department&rsquo;s Southern District of New York office, is a protege of former U.S. Attorney General <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/house-gop-tells-merrick-garland-clear-calendar-raid-trump-home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Merrick Garland<\/a> and an ally of Manhattan District Attorney <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/alvin-braggs-team-begs-judge-pile-even-punishment-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alvin Bragg<\/a> &mdash; and implicitly likened his own prosecution to the legal assaults mounted by those men against now-President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The bottom line is that Damian Williams is going to run for public office and all of these prosecutions are just ways for him to build credibility for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/harris-aides-panicked-when-biden-assigned-her-immigration-task-in-march\/\" title=\"Harris Aides &#039;Panicked&#039; When Biden Assigned Her Immigration Task in March\">future political career<\/a>,&rdquo; he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Some social media users saw the thread as part of an effort to get help from the White House.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Days before he&rsquo;s set to report to federal prison, Bob Menendez is making a pretty explicit appeal to Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/EiPfIlLbo8\">pic.twitter.com\/EiPfIlLbo8<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Allan Smith (@akarl_smith) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/akarl_smith\/status\/1932903086319620348?\">June 11, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Days before he&rsquo;s set to report to federal prison, Bob Menendez is making a pretty explicit appeal to Trump,&rdquo; one wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Mendez&rsquo;s wife, Nadine, was convicted of accepting bribes during a separate trial in April, the AP noted.
