This legislation comes in response to Nashville Mayor Freddie O&#8217;Connell&#8217;s actions,which included releasing names of immigration officers involved in a recent operation that led to numerous arrests. The bill would permit the removal of any public official who violates this rule. Both lawmakers emphasized the need for the legislation to protect law enforcement and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/doj-limits-contact-with-white-house-to-prevent-political-interference\/\" title=\"DOJ Limits Contact With White ... O&#8217;connell,who has received criticism for his <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >executive order requiring city employees<\/a> to report interactions with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE),has been relatively quiet amid the backlash but indicated a focus on ongoing discussions. Simultaneously occurring, U.S. House committees have initiated an investigation into the matter, requesting further facts from O&#8217;Connell by a specified deadline. O&rsquo;Connell issued an executive order requiring city employees to report contact with ICE to his office.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Mayor O&rsquo;Connell&rsquo;s public refusal to rescind his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/women-shouldnt-accept-third-place-in-a-race-they-won\/\" title=\"Women Shouldn\u2019t Accept Third Place In A Race They Won\">executive order makes<\/a> the need for this legislation unmistakably clear to prevent future political defiance that undermines the rule of law and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/maine-official-who-disqualified-trump-from-ballot-says-shes-been-hit-by-onslaught-of-threats\/\" title=\"Maine official who barred Trump from ballot faces threats\">puts law enforcement<\/a> at risk,&rdquo; Johnson said. &ldquo;It sends a message not only to Mayor O&rsquo;Connell, but to any other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/daniel-mccarthy-how-conservatives-can-save-chicago-and-other-high-crime-blue-cities\/\" title=\"Daniel McCarthy: How Conservatives Can Save Chicago and Other High-Crime Blue Cities\">blue-city mayor<\/a> who may consider following his lead: Tennessee will protect its officers, not sacrifice them for political theater.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Sexton used the situation in Los Angeles as an example of what he doesn&rsquo;t want in the Volunteer State.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Tennessee has always stood with law enforcement and we will not allow politically motivated actors to put officers&rsquo; lives in danger simply to score political points with the far left&rdquo; Sexton said. &ldquo;Tennessee will not become California, and Nashville will not become LA or San Francisco on our watch.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>O&rsquo;Connell has made few comments in the past week as federal and state lawmakers have criticized him for his executive order.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/3436124\/mark-green-retire-house-early-after-second-reconciliation-vote\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">MARK GREEN TO RETIRE FROM HOUSE EARLY AFTER SECOND RECONCILIATION VOTE<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Our focus is on participating in conversations,&rdquo; the mayor said in a published report. &ldquo;We don&rsquo;t spend as much energy on statements. I think if they have specific requests, we&rsquo;ll pay attention to those.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Two committees in the U.S. House of Representatives opened a formal investigation and sent a letter to O&rsquo;Connell asking for more information and documents pertaining to the order.
