The sanctions target associates and businesses associated with the cartel in Mazatlan, Mexico. This action follows Quets&#8217; fatal shooting during a carjacking on October 18,2024,believed to be carried out by gunmen linked to the cartel. The Treasury specifically named Archivaldo Ivan Guzman Salazar and Jesus Alfredo Guzman Salazar, sons of the notorious cartel leader Joaquin &#8220;El Chapo&#8221; Guzman, as fugitives leading Los Chapitos. However, Quets&rsquo;s family has continued to wait for the U.S. government to extradite the suspects for prosecution in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Secretary Bessent&rsquo;s decisive action to target the Sinaloa Cartel&rsquo;s financial networks strikes at the heart of this transnational threat,&rdquo; Doug Quets, Nicholas Quets&rsquo;s father, said in a statement provided by the Treasury. &ldquo;Disrupting their ability to move money, launder profits, and bribe officials is essential to dismantling this criminal empire.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Cowards in <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >cartel insignia &#038;mdash<\/a>; more than two dozen strong &mdash; pursued Nicholas and fatally shot him in the back, through the heart, during a failed carjacking, only after confirming his status as an American,&rdquo; Doug Quets said. &ldquo;This was not just murder &mdash;
