This regulation requires fuel producers that emit more carbon than allowed to buy credits from cleaner producers,impacting areas in Nevada and Arizona reliant on California refineries. The GOP&#8217;s measure, part of their &#8220;Cost of Living Week,&#8221; failed with 18 in favor and 39 opposed, <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >reflecting largely party-line votes<\/a> and some abstentions. Democratic leaders criticized the Republicans for lacking viable proposals, while Republicans accused Democrats of pushing policies that worsen the state&#8217;s cost of living. With 19 Republicans in the Assembly, the 23 non-voting members reflect that a large number of Democrats were unwilling to vote against the measure.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>KCRA&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ZavalaA\/status\/1929645749475987490\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">reports<\/a>&nbsp;that Democratic Assembly leaders have since responded by skipping Republican bills on file in retaliation for the proposal.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;California Democrats are delivering for workers and families in the face of Trump&rsquo;s assault on affordability through tariffs, the gutting of 800,000 middle class jobs and threats to our ports, tourism and retail sectors, hospitals and clinics, and funding that supports students and innovation at our colleges and universities,&rdquo; said Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas, D-Hollister, and Senate President Pro Tempore Mike McGuire, D-Healdsburg, in a statement. &ldquo;Meanwhile, California Republicans are spending this week on gimmicks and half-baked proposals that make everyday life more expensive.&rdquo;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Republicans responded by pointing to Democrats&rsquo;
