The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/donald-trump-the-bidens-got-rich-while-americans-got-robbed\/\" title=\"Donald Trump: &#039;The Bidens Got Rich While Americans Got Robbed&#039;\">mayor&#038;rsquo<\/a>;s trespass charges were later dropped, and a judge condemned the decision to charge him as &ldquo;rushed,&rdquo; noting that an &ldquo;arrest of a public figure is not a preliminary investigative tool.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>McIver was then charged with assault of an officer. Raskin said such an action should not have been taken without consulting the Public Integrity Section.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;DOJ prosecutors must consult with the Public Integrity Section before initiating an investigation of Members of Congress and must seek the Section&rsquo;s approval before bringing charges. Reports suggest, however, that Ms. Habba did not consult with, or obtain the approval of, the Public Integrity Section before charging Rep. McIver with a crime,&rdquo; Raskin said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/national-security\/2025\/05\/17\/trump-justice-department-prosecutions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">The <em>Washington Post<\/em> reported<\/a> in mid-May that the Trump administration was looking to eliminate the Public Integrity Section. Without the department, attorneys could indict members of Congress with less oversight.<\/p>\n<p>Raskin said the charges against McIver suggest the Trump administration wants to stall congressional oversight, saying, &ldquo;The decision to charge Congresswoman McIver appears to be part of a concerted strategy to deter congressional oversight and relentlessly pursue Donald Trump&rsquo;s extreme immigration policy with complete disregard for the rule of law and the lawmaking branch of the government.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Raskin also attacked Habba, Trump&rsquo;s former lawyer, personally.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Ms. Habba has already threatened investigations of Democratic elected officials, including New Jersey&rsquo;s governor and attorney general. She has aligned herself completely with the President,<br \/>abandoning any pretense of legal independence or official neutrality, and promised to pursue<br \/>&lsquo;anybody who does get in that way, in the way of what we are doing,&#8217;&rdquo; Raskin said.<\/p>\n<p>Raskin ended his letter with demands for various documents and answers to his questions by June 10.
