This decision follows a lawsuit filed by six individuals who argued that <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >existing policies violated<\/a> their right to equal protection as outlined in the Fourteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution. the court emphasized the importance of ensuring equal protections under the law and deemed the distinction between binary and nonbinary individuals arbitrary and without justification.This ruling aligns Puerto Rico with at least seventeen other states where such nonbinary identifiers are already permitted. Governor Jennifer gonzalez stated that the government would comply with the ruling, pending recommendations from the Justice Department for implementation. Their request is simple: to be permitted to have a gender marker on their birth certificate that reflects their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/parents-lead-protests-against-the-medical-transition-of-minors-outside-california-pediatrics-convention-2\/\" title=\"Parents Lead Protests Against The Medical Transition Of Minors Outside California Pediatrics Convention\">true gender identity<\/a>, like everyone else.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The Court thus finds that there is no rational basis to deny Plaintiffs&rsquo; request,&rdquo; noted the filing. &ldquo;The current Birth Certificate Policy of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico arbitrarily distinguishes between binary and nonbinary individuals and subjects nonbinary individuals to disfavored treatment, without any justification for doing so. In such cases, it is the duty of the federal courts to intervene, to guarantee the equal protection of all persons under the law.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The court ordered Puerto Rico&rsquo;s government to &ldquo;amend the Application for Gender Change form to include an option to select an &lsquo;X&rsquo; as one&rsquo;s gender marker on one&rsquo;s birth certificate.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;In doing so, Puerto Rico will join at least seventeen other states who already permit residents to include a nonbinary or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/free-beacon-poetry-cafe-presents-what-is-a-woman\/\" title=\"Free Beacon Poetry Caf\u00e9 Presents: \u2018What Is a Woman?\u2019\">gender-neutral sex<\/a> or gender marker on their birth certificates,&rdquo; the court noted.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/supreme-court\/3428235\/supreme-court-mail-in-ballots-after-election-day-gop-challenge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SUPREME COURT TAKES UP GOP CHALLENGE TO COUNTING MAIL-IN BALLOTS THAT ARRIVE AFTER ELECTION DAY<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The decision came seven years after a U.S. federal court <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/general-news-87e605d5c89c43db901a43b32bc6ee71\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ruled<\/a> that Puerto Rico&rsquo;s government must grant transgender people the opportunity to change their birth certificates to &ldquo;X&rdquo; selected for their gender if they desired, the <em>Associated Press<\/em> reported.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Gov.
