Maxine Waters (D-CA) has agreed to pay a fine of over $60,000 to resolve allegations of violating election laws, following a Federal Election Commission (FEC) inquiry. The investigation found that Waters’ 2020 campaign committee, Citizens for Waters, failed to accurately report financial contributions and expenditures, accepted excessive contributions amounting to $19,000, and made prohibited cash disbursements totaling ,000. To avoid a court battle, the campaign has acknowledged the errors, attributed them to limited resources during the pandemic, and has since corrected the financial misstatements. The treasurer of the committee is also required to attend a training program for political committees. This is not the first time Waters has faced scrutiny regarding her campaign finance practices, as she has previously dealt with ethics investigations in 2010 and a complaint in 2021 that was ultimately dismissed.

Rep.
