The aide was handcuffed during the encounter, wich stemmed from DHS officers entering the office based on information regarding potential protesters present. Nadler criticized the DHS&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >heavy-handed tactics<\/a>, suggesting that if such actions can occur in a congressional office, they can happen anywhere. If this can happen in a Member of Congress&rsquo;s office, it can happen to anyone &mdash; and it is happening,&rdquo; Nadler said.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> reached out to DHS for comment.<\/p>\n<p>A senior DHS official reported to <em><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/national-security\/5328230-dhs-jerry-nadler-office\/?tbref=hp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"The Hill\">the Hill<\/a><\/em>  that the encounter involved the Federal Protective Service, which &ldquo;responded to information that protesters were present&rdquo; inside Nadler&rsquo;s Manhattan office and went to the office because they &ldquo;were concerned about the safety of the federal employees in the office.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Upon arrival, officers were granted entry and encountered four individuals. Officers identified themselves and explained their intent to conduct a security check. However, one individual became verbally confrontational and physically blocked access to the office,&rdquo; the official said. &ldquo;The officers then detained the individual in the hallway for the purpose of completing the security check. All were released without further incident.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/immigration\/3428115\/dhs-list-sanctuary-cities-offline\/\"><strong>DHS TAKES LIST OF SANCTUARY CITIES OFFLINE<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Still, Nadler implied the encounter had to do with President Donald Trump&rsquo;s immigration policy, as he implored the president to &ldquo;abandon use of the expedited removal process, which denies due process to immigrants and citizens alike.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The FPS envelopes some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/publications\/fps_at_a_glance.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"1.4 million federal employees\">1.4 million federal employees<\/a> and their visitors on a daily basis.
