Removing income tax obligations on earnings during this extra period would be a sizable&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Trump first suggested the idea on the campaign trail in 2024, while running for president. Yoes noted as much in his issued statement of support.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;President Trump first proposed the elimination of Federal income taxes on overtime while still a candidate, and we are very pleased that a similar provision is included in the &lsquo;One Big, Beautiful Bill Act,&rsquo;&rdquo; Yoes said.<\/p>\n<p>The FOP chief explained why including this provision meant so much to police officers and was considered a sign of how much Trump values those in law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The current cap on SALT deductions uniquely and unfairly penalizes law enforcement officers, who often are required to live within a certain distance of the jurisdictions they serve&mdash;removing a valuable mechanism that allowed for a reduction in their cost of living,&rdquo; Yoes said. &ldquo;The SALT deduction is also a valuable way of supporting local budgets as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/oregon-governor-encourages-people-to-call-police-on-neighbors-violating-covid-orders\/\" title=\"Oregon Governor Encourages People To Call ... On Neighbors Violating COVID Orders\">law enforcement agencies<\/a> are facing an array of financial challenges associated with inflated costs of equipment, vehicles, and personnel especially with respect to the ongoing recruitment and retention crisis.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;These are critical provisions to ensure those in the law enforcement profession have a better quality of life,&rdquo; he added. &ldquo;We appreciate that President Trump is always fighting for our nation&rsquo;s law enforcement officers.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/finance-and-economy\/3421168\/permanent-low-tax-rates-give-gop-edge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">PERMANENT LOW RATES WOULD GIVE GOP EDGE IN TAX WARS<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, in a statement released by the White House on Thursday, the Trump administration continued encouraging support for the &ldquo;big, beautiful bill,&rdquo; describing it as a &ldquo;historic opportunity&rdquo; to provide funding for much of President Donald Trump&rsquo;s political platform.<\/p>\n<p>After several weeks of debate, the &ldquo;big, beautiful bill&rdquo; was narrowly approved in the House on May 22 with a vote of 215 to 214. The legislation is currently in the Senate, awaiting a vote.
