The lawsuit claims that Trump&#8217;s executive order, which aims to reduce taxpayer subsidization of media outlets that he perceives as biased, violates the Frist Amendment rights to freedom of speech and the press. <\/p>\n<p>The May 1 executive order specifically targets NPR and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), stating that federal funds should only support fair, unbiased news coverage. \t\t\t\t}); \t\t\t} \t\t<\/script> <\/p>\n<p>The issue at hand is a May 1 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/05\/ending-taxpayer-subsidization-of-biased-media\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">executive order<\/a> that Trump signed, dubbed &ldquo;ENDING TAXPAYER SUBSIDIZATION OF BIASED MEDIA.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The president outlined a number of issues with pumping <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/anti-trump-npr-getting-thousands-taxpayer-dollars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">taxpayer funds<\/a> into media that has been notoriously anti-conservative and anti-Republican &mdash; to say nothing of the media&rsquo;s disdain for Trump himself.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;At the very least, Americans have the right to expect that if their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/12-reasons-why-npr-and-pbs-deserved-to-be-defunded\/\" title=\"12 Reasons Why ... And ... Deserved To Be De...ed\">tax dollars fund public broadcasting<\/a> at all, they fund only fair, accurate, unbiased, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-cuts-federal-funding-for-npr-and-pbs-over-biased-coverage\/\" title=\"Trump cuts federal ...ing for ... and ... over \u2018...\u2019 coverage\">nonpartisan news coverage<\/a>,&rdquo; Trump wrote in his order. &ldquo;No media outlet has a constitutional right to taxpayer subsidies, and the Government is entitled to determine which categories of activities to subsidize.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The order directly stripped NPR and the Public Broadcasting Service of taxpayer subsidization.<\/p>\n<p>The order also included a number of provisions and orders to ensure that NPR and PBS aren&rsquo;t back-dooring any taxpayer money.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The [Corporation for Public Broadcasting] Board shall cease indirect funding to NPR and PBS, including by ensuring that licensees and permittees of public radio and television stations, as well as any other recipients of CPB funds, do not use Federal funds for NPR and PBS,&rdquo; Trump added.<\/p>\n<p>Trump also noted: &ldquo;The heads of all agencies shall identify and terminate, to the maximum extent consistent with applicable law, any direct or indirect funding of NPR and PBS.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>It&rsquo;s a sweeping and comprehensive hit against NPR and PBS, and the &ldquo;BIASED MEDIA,&rdquo; to quote the president, is pushing back.<\/p>\n<p>NPR&rsquo;s lawsuit claims that this executive order violates the Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The Order is unlawful in multiple ways,&rdquo; the lawsuit states. &ldquo;It flatly contravenes statutes duly enacted by Congress and violates the Separation of Powers and the Spending Clause by disregarding Congress&rsquo;s express commands.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It also violates the First Amendment&rsquo;s guarantees of freedom of speech and of the press.
