The U.S. Attorney&#8217;s Office for the District of Massachusetts accuses her of attempting to bring in clawed frog embryos and embryonic samples without the necessary permits. Petrova was detained by Customs &#038; Border Protection at Logan International Airport after her luggage was flagged. \t\t\t\t}); \t\t\t} \t\t<\/script> <\/p>\n<p>The attorney&rsquo;s office statement said, in part: &ldquo;According to the charging documents, on Feb. 16, 2025, Petrova arrived at Logan International Airport in Boston via an inbound flight from Paris.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Upon her arrival, Petrova was stopped by Customs &amp; Border Protection agents after a law enforcement canine allegedly alerted its handler to the defendant&rsquo;s checked duffel bag on the baggage carousel.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Per protocol, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/iowa-governor-kim-reynolds-blasts-leftist-protesters-for-trying-to-interrupt-desantis-during-event\/\" title=\"Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds criticizes leftist protesters for attempting to disrupt DeSantis&#039; event.\">law enforcement removed<\/a> the bag from the carousel and brought it to an <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >agricultural secondary inspection area<\/a> for further screening.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;There, an officer inspected the contents of the bag and allegedly discovered the biological items: a foam box containing clawed frog embryos in microcentrifuges, as well as embryonic samples in paraffin well stages and on mounted dyed slides.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;All biological products require a permit for entry and require the individual to make a declaration to Customs &amp; Border Protection at the port of first arrival.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The office added that Petrova initially lied to authorities about carrying biological materials, before being pressed further.<\/p>\n<p>Of note, Petrova claimed under oath that she was unaware that such biological materials needed to be declared upon entry into the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Text messages procured by authorities, however, reveal that a colleague had warned Petrova &ldquo;make sure you get the permission etc.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Attorney&rsquo;s Office said Petrova had been working for the Institute of Genetic Biology in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/tucker-carlson-returns-moscow-stonewalled-us-government\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Moscow<\/a> as recently as 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Political news outlet The Hill <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/education\/5301240-harvard-scientist-kseniia-petrova-charged-with-smuggling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">noted<\/a> that this case has received international scrutiny.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">EXCLUSIVE: Kseniia Petrova, a Russian scientist at Harvard Medical School, has been detained by ICE since February.<\/p>\n<p>Her case has raised concerns about the treatment of foreign researchers in the U.S. under the Trump administration.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GeoffRBennett?\">@GeoffRBennett<\/a> spoke with her via video&hellip;
