After the report was released, the stock fell around 5.78%, or $14 billion, as of Wednesday afternoon.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At least one patient now lives with permanent brain damage after delayed transportation at the hands of a UnitedHealth staffer, according to the report. Medicare Advantage is used by over half of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/seniors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Medicare-eligible\">Medicare-eligible<\/a> population, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbo.gov\/system\/files\/2024-06\/51302-2024-06-medicare.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Congressional Budget Office<\/a>, and 1-in-5 Medicare users has UnitedHealth as their insurance company, according to the company&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uhc.com\/news-articles\/newsroom\/medicare-advantage-plans-2025#:~:text=Medicare%20Annual%20Enrollment%20runs%20from,Medicare%20Supplement%20and%20retiree%20services.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">reports<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/medicare-advantage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Medicare Advantage\">Medicare Advantage<\/a> allot the given insurance company an amount of money with which it can insure those on their Medicare plans. The more the company is able to cut costs, the more the company gets to keep. The cost-cutting tactic of reducing ambulance transfers has saved the company millions of dollars, according to the report. The previous reports that the Department of Justice was investigating UnitedHealth for Medicare fraud brought criticism of the company, with its stock falling by 17% last Thursday. It asserted it was unaware of such an investigation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The report mentions the alleged murder of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/crime\/3249314\/unitedhealthcare-ceo-brian-thompson-shot-killed-manhattan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Brian Thompson\">Brian Thompson<\/a>, former CEO of the UnitedHealth insurance division, by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/3400188\/luigi-mangione-state-murder-charges-evidence-suppressed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Luigi Mangione\">Luigi Mangione<\/a>, whose trial date is to be set in December.
